Re: Women Hearing Distorsion

Looks like I started a diversion. Well, time for a war story. Back in the 70's sometime the wife and I went shopping in like a Sears/Pennys/Boston Store place on the far Wes side of Milwaukee. We were only a few minutes in the store and it felt like someone put a clamp on my head. Asked the wife if ...

Re: Women Hearing Distorsion on Station After STL realign

Could the loss of hearing in men be the result of constant nagging, or is it "selective hearing loss", which is what I have? Fossil PS Yes, women definitely have superior hearing in the higher frequencies. Heard a station in Wisconsin lost most of their female audience to over processing and ...

Re: Harris FM-25K issue

This is a "for what it's worth" comment. Recently, I have experienced issues with three rebuilt tubes. One, in a 10KW rig was gassy from the factory, and was arcing over causing several different overloads. After a couple of months it has stabilized. The other tube failed to work right out of the bo...

Re: Arrakis 12,000 series console issues

I think I see a problem. If you look at the manual, the input connections start with CN-1 at the rear of the console. From the rear, it is CN-1, CN-2, CN-3 towards thew front of the board. It looks like you are connected to CN-2 and CN-3, or opposite how the connections are laid out. Been there, don...

Re: Wouldn't it be nice if a B-I-G company like Nautel could acquire the schematic for these power supplies, so they COU

Here is a possible solution I heard about......... When I was wearing the "three piece sales suit", I happened to stop in to visit an engineer customer. He was having a problem with a sat rcvr. He called the manu., and asked for specific stuff, IB, schematic, etc. He was told in no uncertain terms t...

Re:BALANCING CIRCUIT

Good thought! Please PM it to me and hopefully I can get something put together in the near future. Got a bunch of work going on now and am going to be busier than a one armed paper hanger with the hives for awhile. I had started getting some cables made up, but due to advanced old age, I lost track...

Re: Telecom - RF Optimization Engineering

The tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to be free----RF broadcast engineers. Been doing it since 1956, and still having lots of fun!. Is there something wrong with my picture???? :D Oooops, I forgot to add hungry. Deep Thought nailed it. There will always be a need for RF engineering. Fossil

FUNCTION GENERATOR

Guys: Was digging around on the App Store for some incidental software for my tablet and discovered a really nifty, free function generator software package by Keuwlsoft. It does sine, square, triangle white and pink. I think as a quick, easy to transport tool, I could make some adaptor cables for X...

Re: DX-50 works as speaker

Overheated/hot connections can very easily be found using a laser pistol grip thermometer. Been using them for at least 10 years. Run the xmttr for a day, put the backup on, open it up and start pointing. You will find the hot ones really fast. However, be aware that the cheap laser temp devices rea...

Re: Arrakis Console issue It's a special form of torture.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I must have installed maybe 14 or15 of them of the 12,000 and 22,000 series with only very limited troubles over many years. Most were switch tops breaking and there for a period of time, I lost some of the VCA chips until we got the latest versions. They were pretty ...

Re: DX-50 works as speaker

It has been many years since I was inside a DX-25/50 so it would help to know which of the 4 variable caps, by circuit designation, in the output network, that you are referring to. It's repeated failure might be caused by something else in the output network/load . And the "accountant scenario" you...

Meh! If you've seen one eclipse, you've seen them all. Saw one back in the 40's sometime when I lived in Flushing, Long Island, Neeeew Yooork Ciiity. Dad smoked up a glass with some carbon and we looked at the sun. Today, I'll probably think it's bedtime and fall asleep in my chair.....like I usuall...

Re: Gates MW-5 Problem

It has been about 25 years since I worked on an MW-5 so I am really rusty. Only thoughts are possibly the damper diode breaking down as the voltage comes up. I seem to recall replacing a coil that might have been part of the PDM filtering but can't recall the symptoms. I had one other instance that ...

Weeeelllll! Time for a war story. Back in the day I happened to be in the area doing some DA measurements on that very station. This was waaaay back during the really big floods they had out there. As we were finishing up, I was standing in front of that very xmttr during a huge thunderstorm. A trem...

Re: RCA BTA1M transmitter

Yup! 833 's will glow red a lot longer than a 4-400. Got an RCA BTA1MX up in Sheboygan with 833's. I think I had to replace the jugs once over many years until we put the Nautel in. It has been in standby for so many years I doubt the CE has even turned it on in about 12-13 years. It might just crat...
