Re: RIP Ralph Winquist

I didn't know Ralph but I recognize some of those call letters. If he was helping WPKN in the early 70s I probably saw some his handiwork.

Condolences to his family and those who knew him.

Re: Unplayable audio files

ENCO Systems uses mpeg2 files but with the .WAV extension notable for it being all caps. I have two methods to play these if that's what they are. One is to use Open Audio from Video in Adobe Audition 1.5 under the File dropdown. (Later versions may have a different method.) 2nd method is to convert...

WINamp?

It would be interesting to see what a path thru Barixes would come out like for the header code/EOM.

Re: INTERNATIONAL CRYSTAL MFG

It appears they have moved across town: http://www.macraesbluebook.com/search/company.cfm?company=325628 If the link doesn't work it says 25 Lawndale Dr., CB,IA 51503. Tel: 712-323-7539 However, Google Maps's satellite view shows this to be a residential area, suggesting a more limited operation. Bu...

Re: INTERNATIONAL CRYSTAL MFG

Gotta wonder if one is connected to the other. They would be losing a very large customer. I should know this since I am just across Big Muddy from them but does anyone know if Petersen is still operating in Council Bluffs? Last time I was in their neighborhood it didn't look like there was any goin...

Re: Barix levels

Apt-x is the gold standard. Thanks for reminding us. I did not know about it being redundant streams which is really the way to do this. There are other products out that can swap out bad packets from one stream with concurrent good ones from another of up to 4 redundant streams all on near real time.

And this is new. It used to be whichever is smaller, which did indeed affect placement for some directional AMs. After Tom Wheeler left, reason prevailed and the rule was quickly changed.

Re: Quiet UPS

Looking forward to your report. To tell the whole truth, we have had the swollen battery issue* and the Chinese revenge sharp edges on the BOTTOM of the battery tray where they can do the most damage to your fingers and any surface you set them on. *As noted above, the batteries should have already ...

Re: Audio Chain > AES or Analog?

I think the main gain is better signal-to-noise ratio but that is limited by receivers and receiving conditions anyway, so I agree with Mike on this one. Funds probably better spent elsewhere.
