Re: You need this

I remember that trick. In our situation there were indeed a pair of 111Cs but one was for the left channel and one for the right channel in the AM Stereo days. For awhile after they quit offering dry pairs you could still get one by ordering an off-premise extension, then take all the telco stuff of...

Re: You need this

Hey, it (barbed wire) always worked from Manhattan, Kansas, when we broadcast the Husker football games at K-State! Funny thing. The best audio quality we ever got off a two-line Comrex freq extender was from the Japan Bowl. The worst audio quality was from Kansas State (noted above and referred to ...

Re: You need this

I think Steve may have given that presentation, or included it, in the class he gave at the NBA-SBE convention in Lincoln last year. It was also an Ennes workshop. It was video'd so it might be available online at SBE.org, sbe74.org, or ne-ba.org (Nebraska Broadcasters Association).

Re: Hello?

I'm bouncing back and forth between. Problem is, one is 70 miles west of home, and the other is 60 miles east of home. We hate it when that happens. And to think I used to complain every time a storm came through Dane County and I'd have transmitters calling me from every corner of the county. 130 ...

Re: Look what took my 50kw off the air

At KFAB, there were blowers installed and trained on the horn gap(s) where the feedline exited the brick doghouse on the non-D tower to blow the little stinkers out of the gap. Otherwise we were operating a 50kw bug zapper. The Continental Magnaphase (sp?) would interrupt carrier briefly so as not t...

Re: Daytime Impedance high?

Sounds like they made it through. Praise God, the funnel lifted as it crossed Shen just a few blocks south of downtown. The same storm is well east now and the funnel has been up and down and up again. Pretty intense hail not too far from the KMA site but never lost carrier. The NWS EAS relay was in...

Re: EAS Issue

Just wanted to see if anyone has any easy suggestions before I re-wire the system in a more conventional manner.
Re-wire the system in a more conventional manner.

If the place runs unattended at any time, having EAS depend upon someone remembering to leave the pot up is asking for trouble.

Re: RFI-Resistant USB Audio Interface

If you go the 600:600 transformer route, get two for the spare you'll need after the first one sacrifices itself on the altar of lightning. :D

Re: Small diameter balanced mic cable OK? Source?

One difference could be in the shielding. Regular mic cable usually has a braided or stranded shield which flexs easily. Smaller diameter cable might be foil shielded. This is fine for a fixed permanent installation, such as wiring to a mic jack on the table, but if flexed might introduce noise when...

Re: Streamer PC hit by ransomware

Triton likes to use TeamViewer. YMMV but our IT and web development people don't like it, don't want it, and are constantly fighting with Triton over its use. Since TV works from the inside out, as I understand it, I can see where it might pose a security issue.

Re: Translator Clearance...

Radio-locator's inaccuracies aside, if you zoom way in on the area of overlap of the two signals under discussion, the translator's 40 dBu just misses the FM station's 60 dBu. Something else to keep in mind when looking at radio-locator's maps, their AM contours are somewhat unusual. They use 2.5 mV...
