Re: Splitting coverage into markets

Since streaming providers can do this, perhaps something based on that technology would fit the bill.

You might touch base with Winston at NextKast automation. He might welcome the challenge if he isn't already offering a solution.

Google NextKast.

Re: RCA BTA1M transmitter

Hm. Together with the manufacturing troubles with 4-400s you might have explained why, toward the end of our Bauer 707's service as a main, I was getting only about 8 months out of the tubes: CRL processors. They were cranked pretty hard although the large majority of programming was/is talk. That, ...

When did they start using 4-400s, Dale?

I lean toward the AM-1A but haven't much experience with their support lately.

Re: RCA BTA1M transmitter

This is great! That is the model I was thinking of and upon further deflection, there were two stations in my past that had these. I can't find a date anywhere in the manual, though. Thinkin' they must have been from the 40's. Stations in question, should anyone be curious, were WHTG and WAEB, both ...

Re: Visit Our Very Own Mike Shane's sites

Hey Mike, Thanks for the spotlight! Scott covered all of our sites over 3 or 4 installments, including an old site that was used for 660 way back in the 30s and 40s. It was recently "rediscovered" after the FCC began releasing the old history cards. The other site that existed before 1968 had been i...

Ok Kevin got it while I was looking. Sorry for the repeat info. Dashpots was what I was looking for but couldn't remember the term.

Re: Harris HT30 issue

I've been scouring the manual for a particular thing and cannot find it but there are solenoids in the power supply that need periodic attention. I did find reference to how they work but nothing on the maintenance. We had trouble with these on an HT35. Can't recall the symptoms whether they were si...

Re: Gates MW-5 Problem

The HV is close to spec but the rig is only running 500 watts. What would the HV be if you could run full power? Methinks it would be less, maybe a lot less, but you can't get there to see it.

I didn't see anything in there about a blocking cap.

Re: RCA BTA1M transmitter

Is the L even a little bit similar? It seems to have a similar tube complement. Might it be enough to get it going if not an authentic restoration? Is your M closer to the L or the R in form? A station I once worked for had a 1kw RCA which I think had 833s but it was a one or two cabinet deal not 3 ...

No experience but I've heard good things about it. Nothing can fix non-studio-quality audio. Cliche time: it is what it is and garbage in; garbage out!

Re: AM Major Modifications window..

Hey Mark, What would constitute a major mod versus a minor mod? There is a daytime station on 1180 in King of Prussia, PA that was moved there from many miles away in McConnellsburg where it was on 15-something, I think. It's indeed tantamount to a new station but since the FCC hadn't issued new day...

Never thought of that. A 5/8 wave at 144 MHz is an even 1/4 wave at 50 MHz. Approximately. Any skip today yet?
