Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

A pair of "fly swatters" might fix you right up. Just have to find out where to position them. Once had TI that was bouncing off a nearby tall building that messed with, I think it was, the CRC carrier on AMC-3. The fly swatters fixed that. If I had a picture I'd post it but I don't. Concerning back...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

After repoint of DH one piece 3m dish we have EbN0 of 13.x on Learfield's unit, which is newer. That reading is higher than before and it doesn't seem to change much. WW1 is only managing 8.x. Tried changing the freq and there may have been some improvement but not enough to leave there or else just...

Re: XLR Mic switch or what ?

I would suggest installing pre-amps (could be under the table) in studio A and bridge the outputs to both studios. No switching required and the other CR can put one or more mics in cue to monitor if needed. RDL makes "Stick-on" preamps. It seems they get a bit noisy over time but they're easily rep...

Re: Temporary Opportunity - Analog TV Broadcast Setup in the DR

Is there no other channel available? In the US prior to the switch to digital television, two stations were never assigned to adjacent channels in the same market, and to the co-channel (i.e.: two channel 6's for example) there would generally be at least 200 miles separation between transmitter sit...

Re: New Sound Board

So, yes, there are reasons to get a $4000 console over a $1000 console. BUT, if $4000 is more than you can spend: 1) I hope you are not a commercial station because then you really don't want a $1000 console except as a temporary measure or a standby and if you have to ask you must not be doing that...

They have contact info on their web site. I strongly suspect you won't get a human to pick up the phone but perhaps they call you back. There are also email links including one for support. And the usual FAQ page. Oh, and sales!

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Actually it's AMC-18 you want not -15. Also known as SES-11 unless I'm confused which is my normal state these days. In any case 105 degrees in the arc. So far so good with our 10-footer. I'm sure it will change. Just noticed that I can't check on the snow accumulation from my office window anymore,...

Re: EO Pulsar 1KW problem

I'm aware of a 1960's Ampliphase where the engineer on duty decided to replace all the tubes in the exciter. He and the CE got to spend a few days getting it to work again. The guy's ears were still red 25 years later!

Re: IC 706 MkII-G problem

Now that's a couple things that I have not heard yet. Guessing the PA modules are separate for <54 MHz. Either way, it's looking like a trip to SD for the old girl.

I contacted the fellow who took over Burghardt's repair service. Reviews are kinda mixed but lean toward good.

Thanks for the clues.

IC 706 MkII-G problem

So let's turn that other discussion on its head and discuss ham radio on a broadcast board (not a new idea--obviously the board operators thought to include ham radio as a forum)! IC 706 MkII-G produces no output on 2 meters. It used to. Now it acts like there's high SWR (there isn't) comes on with ...

Re: Emergency communication

Absolutely. There is a Sunday morning sked among a few locals I chime in on occasionally and we'll have a little bit of shop talk about what we're working on from time to time. Should be no problem there.

It could get really boring if you can't talk about what you do.

Happy hamming!

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Repointed our undersized 10-footer Tuesday and Wednesday. It was only supposed to be Tuesday but we managed to get it to where it wouldn't receive anything unless we pointed it AMC-3. That worked well enough we entertained the notion of leaving it there and point the 12-1/2 footer at -18. But first,...

The old broadcasters rule of thumb "we're going to save $1000 even if it costs $10000"
There's that "debt flow" thing again.

Re: Emergency communication

True. But in certain emergencies (not including "we're off the air but everyone else is on!") I believe you can even repeat amateur transmissions on the broadcast air as well as use amateur freqs for communication regarding the station operation. Many broadcast stations don't make any money during, ...
