Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

Pretty decent TV antenna. (FM radio falls very close to TV channel 6, so a decent TV antenna usually also performs well for FM. A dedicated FM radio antenna would work better but I don't see any decent ones on Amazon.) Turning it vertically causes it to respond to vertical polarization. (installed h...

Re: USB Keyboards/Mice for Studio

DO NOT use more than one wireless keyboard/mouse in the same studio! I came in to work one day to find someone had, for aesthetic reasons, replaced seven wired keyboards/mice in the studio with seven wireless units. After about two hours' work I was able to get each keyboard/mouse paired with the ri...

Re: NBC: spurious Namedropper trigger?

I finally had a chance to get back into this and...

The Namedropper's "backdoor.cgi" page says it's seeing the trigger signal on 52 0F -- but it's not inserting anything. Patch out the X50 & it works fine.

Strange....

Re: Audio board EQ for newscasts

We have a Yamaha 02R96VCM for our newscasts...which has quite a bit of EQ capabilities.. capabilities we arent using at all..our audio sounds ok but I'm sure our audiophile viewers beg to differ.. was wondering what some people out there are doing..are you doing something different for mics vs say ...

Re: Revitalized AM Translators

This rule has recently changed. (last spring IIRC) Originally the translator's coverage area had to be within 25 miles of the AM station *and* the 2mV/m contour. It was changed to with 25 miles of the AM station *or* the 2mV/m. I'm betting the translator in question was authorized before the rules c...

Silent spot

Yep, they're at it again... Someone has produced a spot with ~20sec. of silence at the head.

I see why they did it -- it makes artistic sense in context -- but I'm tired of these emails from the silence sensor.....

Re: Getting Through Windows Firewall

If the computer isn't doing anything critical then you might consider just configuring it for remote desktop and have the audio diverted to the client computer...that way there isn't any special config for whatever you are listening on. I did this during the eclipse. Had a SDR connected to the PC a...

Re: Wanted reliable monitor amp

I had one D-75 that came from the factory wired for 240 volts, despite the captive ordinary USA 120v power cord. It worked fine for years. We only found out when we tried to tap DC power for a preamp & couldn't figure out why both power rails read half what the manual said they should. I suppose if ...

Re: Nielsen NECAT locks soundcard input at 100%

Just a WAG, but... If you pull up the recording device properties on the laptop sound card, are there a couple of option boxes having to do with "Exclusive Mode"? Would be under the Advanced tab. Maybe un-checking those would keep NECAT from messing with levels. Nice lead, appreciated! Unfortunatel...

Nielsen NECAT locks soundcard input at 100%

I'm using an older version of NECAT to verify encoder function. I have the current version installed, but... when I run it, it immediately cranks the audio input level on my laptop to 100% & locks it there. Can't turn it down with Control Panel. If I stop NECAT I get control back & can use Control P...

Re: adjustable Studio desk

Assuming AOIP, use patchcord (stranded) cable..

Ikea sells nice adjustable office desks. I'm thinking you could hack one to accomplish this -- possibly using only the legs & the mechanism?

Re: NBC: spurious Namedropper trigger?

Now I have one that isn't happening but needs to:)

I have 52/0F for the DID/SDID for the local ID logo. I'm thinking the code for the Today Show crawl is different - anyone know? If so, what it is?

Thanks!

IPAWS outage?

Did anyone else get notification of IPAWS going offline between 21:42 (CT) last night and 07:51 this morning?
