Re: Unplayable audio files

It's become a moot point -- I had to ignore them for awhile & go work on the EAS box & they weren't willing to wait that long.

Re: Unplayable audio files

Due to the nature of the content I can't make a sample available. (more than anything else I'm just venting:) , our newspeople sometimes seem to think "a file is a file is a file, why can't we play everything the police give us?" I think some of these security vendors are trying to lock in their cus...

Unplayable audio files

Anyone run into what claims to be a .WAV file but won't play except in the proprietary software that created it? I have a data CD with a number of .WAV files. I've tried iTunes, QuickTime, Windows Media Player, and VLC. None will play it. Most say "unsupported" -- VLC says it's 23 seconds long but i...

Re: FCC AM Database

I'm sure it could be written for a smartphone but... They're in the process of moving the TV data into a new License Management System database. My recollection is they intend radio to follow suit eventually. I don't suppose anyone has any idea how far along that project is? (probably not at all...)

Re: FCC Waives Incentive Auction Silent Period

I kinda think the bigger news in yesterday's release is that they expect the new channel assignment letters to be in stations' hands by next Monday.

5.1 to 2.0 downmix card?

Anyone know of a not-too-horribly-expensive device to do a downmix from 5.1 to stereo, preferably in the SDI embedded domain? Our network receivers are sources on our router. Nearly all our *destinations* are 2.0 stereo. When we route a network receiver to any of these destinations... we don't get t...

Re: How many entries are in your HOST file?

16 to block various subhosts of zedo.com which was responsible for an annoying collection of popunder ads. (I'm redirecting them to localhost although I'm sure 0 would work just as well) For some reason I also added addthis.com (another ad-hosting site). I don't recall them doing anything unreasonab...

Re: Translators

If an AM stations has a translator that is rebroadcasting it's signal within it coverage area can they have another translator just outside the coverage area with it rebroadcasting from the 1st translator? If that makes sense? Given that it's too early in my day, I'm probably going to get this wron...

ATSC: MGT tables_defined

I'm working my way through our annual PSIP checklist.. We've changed encoders/muxes since last time & I'm having a bit of trouble reconciling what's going on here. I have a theory on what they're looking at but I'm interested what you all think... "The tables_defined field in the MGT must be 3 + hig...

Re: Translators

Which recalls memories of an event that demonstrates the follies of these things... Driving through Meridian, Mississippi & listening to NPR. The program ends & I start tuning looking for something else to listen to. I stop tuning when I hear the 1050Hz EAS alert tone. Weather looks clear, but Merid...

Re: ISDB-T PID Planning

Hello, it's me again, we are now on commissioning of our system. Problem is, its still unclear how we can identify our service id. We use 12545 (decimal) network ID, and 8800 (decimal) original network id. I read somewhere that service Id is a combination of network id, service type and service num...

Re: Locked up browsers

Yep, a pet peeve. Modern browsers offer tabbed browsing. I pull up a TV website (including our own...) and see a list of news stories. I right click on the ones I want to see & select "Open in new tab". Five or six of them. None are in the category clearly marked "Video", none have the little camera...

When you count satellite and outlying cable & IPTV operators, I would be surprised if the true OTA penetration in Nashville is less than 50%. I wouldn't doubt it's significantly higher in markets where the population is more spread out.
