Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

We borrowed a sat meter which would tell us which bird we were on. Then marked the various positions on the pole. Once we found some some nearby birds it was fairly simple to find the one we wanted. Highly recommend borrowing one.

Re: Collins 820E part

I found the switch I needed in supplies I had. Even found the packing list from when Norm Kling ordered. Boy he was good at having the right spare parts on hand. Second time the late Norm Kling saved the day.

My five XDS receivers range 11.5 to 12.5 EB. AG is ranging from 45 to 50.Yesterday, I could watch one of my westwoods EB bouncing to and from zero. Today with all the rain solid at 11.5 EB. Royals is 13.5 C/N.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Wondering what others are getting for results on the move to AMC 18. We moved to a new DH dish 3.7M from a Comtech 3.8M. We peaked with a borrowed sat analyzer and using one of the XDS receivers. Did find the analyzer could not ID it as AMC 18. Guessing it needed an update. Couple of questions. We f...

Re: Daytime Impedance high?

I have a delta electornics OIB and potomac sd31. Which I dusted the cob webs off yesterday and bench tested. I talked to ed trombly at Munn Reese. When I can get clearance to take KMA down again I am going to isolate the cap and monitor loop coil to see if they are nulled out at our frequncy. Then v...

Collins 820E part

Collins 820E or F looking for the overload indicator assembly on the control panel. The on and off and display switches are pretty much all the same. The lamp sockets and lens are fine. Checked with Continental, no longer have any. Just need the rod and support which holds the front display in place...

Re: Daytime Impedance high?

I have tried a couple of different delta base meters and got similar results. Yesterday I put in one I got tuned by delta electronics. Current readings stayed about the same. Several years back the cap across the sample loop coil was shorted and the affect was obvious. Since this cap is essentially ...

Daytime Impedance high?

Appears our center tower impedance is high. Non directional center tower should have an impedance of 433 ohms with 3.4 base amps to make 5KW. In order to make 3.4 amps at the base, the SX5 is putting out 5.6KW (nearly maxed out). The inline OIB and amp meter at the transmitter end confirms the power...

Re: Radomes and Icy weather

Line pressure is holding fine. I use a dehydrator and nitrogen. Periodically draining the air and refilling with nitrogen. Friday I did manually drain out a few pounds of air to see if by chance I would get any sign of moisture in the system.

Re: Radomes and Icy weather

Would it make sense to get some replacement radome parts before I send a crew up? From the comments it seems likely one or more radome is damaged.
I have wondered about the drone idea and if it would give you a good image of the antenna. Has anyone tried it?

Re: Radomes and Icy weather

In the past when the wet weather starts reflected does dip down then go back up. I do not have a sweep test of the antenna. Just have the test data from ERI. I am suspicious the weep holes may be plugged. MB

Radomes and Icy weather

Our FM has a 10 bay directional ERI antenna with Radomes, running at 100kw ERP on 1000 ft tower. On Sunday I found the VSWR was running about 1.6 during the recent icy wet weather. Reflected was over 1KW. I backed TPO to 5KW to get the reflected to under 500 watts. Visually could not see from the gr...

KMA ENCO USER search

KMA is looking for a part time person in or near SW Iowa with ENCO expertise to be a backup to me. This would be mostly user support questions and troubleshooting. If you know of anyone contact Mark Brockmeyer at KMA radio.

Re: SX5A Mind of it own

I got the replacement ICs and I have the SX5 back on the air. The SXtips lead me to the 8282 chip since I was noticing the remote and raise LEDs on the Status Multipler board were going on and off. Time will tell if this fixes it. If starts doing it again I will try chaning the other 8282 chip and t...

Re: SX5A Mind of it own

The status latch chip is running very hot compared to the same chip used for overload latch. I did try disconnecting one CPU board at a time and the problem continued. Noticing the remote led and raise led on the status and mulimeter board tending to go on and off. Found some old troubleshooting not...
