Re: Tower Painting question

We sent pictures to the original painter. Who has agreed to give the red bands another coat and touch up the white bands where needed. Hopefully this will last more than 5 years. Then we will plan doing the whole tower. Painter was shocked at how much the red bands have faded away in less than 5 yea...

Re: Tower Painting question

My question is. Since this first coat is disappearing so quickly. Not fading or chipping its disappearing for some reason. Do we need to do 2 coats or will one more coat be enough?

Tower Painting question

Need some feedback on painting a 1000 ft fm tower. 1000 ft tower put up in 2009 with strobes and not painted. In 2013 we moved to LED lights and painted the tower. Saved us a bundle in strobe repairs. We only put one coat of paint on the tower and no primer. As you have guessed the red bands are qui...

Re: AM site and Solar arrays

Center tower is 480 and outer towers are 240. Lots of land outside the radius of the towers. Several acres North and East of the array.

AM site and Solar arrays

Tossing an idea out there. Our AM 3 tower uses about 17 acres. I have wondering if some of the land could be used for a solar panel farm. There is a lot of southern exposure and a couple of miles from a midamerican energy substation. Several arces are outside the guy radius. The solar panel farms I ...

Re: KYFR radio

Got them up and running again. Full power day and night. A bit hit and miss with the RF switch control wiring with out a schematic. The replacement RF switches had different control wiring than the orginals.

Good to know there may be someone with documentation and at least some part of the company may still exist.

KYFR radio

Wondering if anyone knows anything about KYFR site, south of coin, Iowa. Its a four tower AM. Doing some work for them on the side to resolve problems with both RF and directional control wiring. I bit like exploratory surgery right now, blind folded. Need to find diagrams on the directional system ...

Re: Phone Audio dropping

We have had other calls at the same time with no problem. The two factors seems to be weather eye and the time. We are going to try to use a flipping extensions to see if it is extension. We have tried changing who originates the call with no difference. I wish I could just them to change the times ...

Phone Audio dropping

Not sure this the right forum. However I will post what is happening and see if anyone has an idea what is happening. At 6:45am and 7:45am exactly we are getting an audio drop on our calls with Weather eye. It only lasts at most 3 seconds and sounds like call waiting. We don't lose the call just the...

Re: Backup STL link

For that distance, I would think a 900 mhz data link on a couple of yagis would do the trick, even through some trees. Ubiquiti, or Mikrotik, and the like. I'm using Mikrotik radios diplexed into one of my STL paths, and it works great across the Sacramento metro out to south of rancho cordova. dav...

Re: Backup STL link

If you're just looking for a backup positive way to shut off the transmitter, why not use the squelch contacts on the STL receiver and connect it to one of the transmitter external interlock connections? Shut down the STL transmitter and off goes your broadcast transmitter. A good idea for a failsa...

Backup STL link

Looking for idea on a "cheap" backup link between our Studios and AM site for site control. Using Burk Arc SL plus. I am using a pair of 950 Marti STL 10 for audio. Transmitter control is thru DSL. We have had several DSL outages in recent months. The distance is about a mile and a half. Line of sit...

Re: Daytime Impedance high?

I got my replacement coil from Kintronics today. The old coil was a 6" outside diameter coil with 23 turns. The replacement from Kintronics is only a 5" outside diameter coil with 22 turns. The windings on both are 1" wide flat copper. Circuit wise the coil is across the common point and ground. The...
