Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Lost satellite signal, found the dish pointed across the street. Actuator arm stripped and let loose, the force of the dish dropping down to vertical bent or loosened almost everything. Ugh. I think that dish is far too heavy for the light-duty polar mount it was installed on. After tilting it back ...

I offered to go to the shop and bring back my distortion analyzer
I'm guessing you don't have the gold infused oxygen deprived phase stabilized test leads for that. And you're gonna plug it into just an ordinary outlet? Tsk tsk. The results would be completely meaningless.

Re: You need this

Don't bother unless your house is wired with oxygen-free Romex. And never mind the miles and miles of "ordinary" conductor between your house and the power plant. They also offer this to get around that: https://www.moon-audio.com/ps-audio-perfectwave-power-plant-5.html Sometimes a little bit of kn...

Re: Static Dissipators?

They had a static problem which was treated with - as I recall - a 100,000 ohm non inductive resistor mounted across each insulator on the top set of guy wires all the way to the ground. I still have an AM site like that, each of the top insulators is bypassed with a large resistor. No idea of the ...

Re: Mounting stuff to old concrete block wall?

The magic trick is chucking that masonry bit into a hammer drill. A regular drill has the tendency to do exactly what you're saying it does, instead of hammering the concrete into chunks the bit can then remove, it walks to the side.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

I had been wondering if it was down yet. My remaining client that hasn't been moved still doesn't have cash to do so and I haven't had time to log into any of their receivers to see if they are down. If they're on a service that offers a backup stream they may not even notice unless they catch the ...

Re: Any opinion on MACHLETT transmitter tubes.

The Machlett name is owned by by Penta Labs. They use it on their (almost certainly Chinese made) microwave tubes. Just another legacy name slapped on what is now garbage. Like Amperex...Richardson bought the name and uses it on Chinese made 4-400's.

Re: Moving SS32 to new Win 7 machines

32 bit, 64 bit, doesn't matter to Scott. Nor does it use much memory. The on-air machines can be just about anything as long as the audio cards fit. Production you'll build up to run your audio editors, Adobe or whatever you choose. TLC will be just fine on whatever you end up with. ASI no longer ke...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Never a dull moment but I don't know if my nerves can stand much more vehicle problems. Agreed there. At the end of the day you really just want to get back home. Having to call a second tow truck ("how the hell did you do that?") to extricate the first tow truck you called ("how the hell did you d...

If you go the 600:600 transformer route, get two for the spare you'll need after the first one sacrificed it self on the altar of lightning. :D
I started adding MOV's across the primaries and secondaries and the carnage stopped.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Thanks Kevin. Gave the dish a nudge and the EB numbers came right back to 12-15+ That mount is unstable. The coffee shop does not close until 9pm which gives us about 15 minutes of daylight to work. May have to work out a deal directly with the building's owner. I think I will take your advice and r...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Then...there was this one. To reach it we had to park a bucket truck in the driveway of a small coffee shop. They were not amused and called the police, who told us to move the truck. Now. This, despite my sending a letter to the place last spring AND leaving several messages (none returned) to info...
