Re: Contactors! Clear the driveway before going to bed, wake up to another 12-18"

Chuck-try driving around in the winter "Up Nort" in da UP, dere hey! Houghton-Hancok, Marquette, Ishpeming, Hurley Burly/Ironwood, etc where the big truck snow plows have a second "wing plow" so they can "terrace" the snow. Ain't no way, if you lose control up there, that you would even be able to ...

Re: Contactors!

You guys forgot your snowshoes, mufflers (scarves for you Southern boys), jumper cables and one shot instant start. And don't forget the lock de-icer. Clear the driveway before going to bed, wake up to another 12-18". That's when I gave up and got a truck with a plow blade. IIRC you were just West ...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

We used one of these

on the back side of one of those Comtech dishes. Worked just fine.

Spec An plots never looked like the printouts for us either, but the receivers locked and have good numbers.

Re: Sine Systems RAK-2

I bought one several-many years ago. I never got the web side working correctly. The guy who owned Sine Systems (senior moment - can't call his name) died soon after I got mine and I never found anyone who could help me after that. I still use it today for the UPS feature. There was a guy in La.- n...

Call or email Darryl Parker (408) 219-5579 darryleparker(AT)comcast.net.
He's still attempting to support TFT stuff in a limited capacity.

Re: Unplayable audio files

Are those the original files, or did someone attempt to "help out" and incorrectly convert the native file fomat to WAV before giving you the disk?

Re: SEARCHING FOR CAPS

Bob, if a 2100 VAC cap will work, it's as close as your nearest microwave oven (or appliance parts store). 0.9/2100 is a standard size.

Re: Quiet UPS

We operate 13 APC SmartUPS 1500s and none of them make a peep. Only noise I've ever heard is a quiet clunk when they test themselves once a week. 5 of them are in studios. That's what I have in several studios as well. Haven't really had any issues with then and they seem to tolerate the 1960's mec...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

So, Is a Scientific Atlanta model 9000 2.8m solid dish 2 degree compliant? I don't believe it is. Sure did put a lot of those in about 25-30 years ago, they held up quite well but they're just too small. Is this the dish that has a screwdriver adjustment of the polarization out on the outside edge ...

Re: Reviving a dormant antenna system

I agree that Mark is giving the best advice engineering wise. But money wise and who isn't these days why not pressure it up, load into it and see what happens. You won't waste that much time testing it, maybe will still work. That is almost certainly what is going to happen. The thinking (in gener...

Re: Engineers office computers

My "office" computer is a laptop and the covers are not missing. I do have a test mule PC back on the workbench with no covers, it's used for testing parts, copying drives and other similar tasks. Lewis, I know what you mean. I think I can still build a Scott SS32 blindfolded. Lost track of ho...

Re: snow/ice prevention

Glad you asked! Got one dish with no cover. It hasn't failed at all. Got another with the big plastic/rubber cover. Had to go there twice in a week to beat the crap outta the membrane with my crutch. Actually worked pretty good until I discovered my pant leg was snagged on the top of my suede winte...
