Re: Arrakis Automation

The Arrakis console issues, and we still have 5 of them in service, is almost always that VCA chip. Even with good grounding they fail. An online UPS stopped the failures, at least so far. I know of two DigiLink DL4 systems still on-air and chugging along. I had to repair the switcher on one, the ot...

Re: Broadcast Electronics Console Model 5S150 Issues

We had serial #1 Collins 212G at WFHR, the on-air studio had a Gates Dualux II that had no serial number at all, purchased as a pre-production show unit. I'd love to know where it went. Ran into another 212G at WJMS, it was still in service in the main studio when I left in 2006. One of the few thin...

Re: IPAWS outage?

We've been having intermittent connection problems to IPAWS up here in Central Wisconsin for 3 days. Saturday was the worst. More than one station, different cities and different ISP's.

Re: Factory Reset XDS PRO1P

I am guessing Scott's receiver is one that doesn't have the front panel display, which means there is no access to a daily password for logging into the embedded web page or anything else. Loads of fun when it wont' grab a DHCP address. Have to use a serial cable and a few words not suited for on-a...

Re: Harris FM-25K issue

There are other times the IPA tuning changes drastically, but upon arrival I have always been able to tune the reflected power out and get the transmitter back on the air. That points towards something after that tuning control, or the control itself. I haven't been inside a 25K for a long time, bu...

Re: computer audio interface - alternative to 3.5mm

I assume you saw the <properties <stereo 441000 comments on FB? I might be the oddball (I'm used to it), but I don't have a problem running an unbalanced -10 sound card with the 3.5mm jacks in production. We have several running that way. Other than the cheapness factor, there really isn't an operat...

Re: What might this unit be for?

Who is to say that the center zero meter isn't a listener monitor to tell the PD if more or less people approve of his loudness control knob adjustments? Sure, it goes up when he increases the loudness. Don't encourage him. Incidentally years ago I had a FCC inspector give me the side-eye for...

Re: OMB GP-6

Is that the ring stub antenna with the beercan attached to the rear of the bay with the RF connector? If so those are 50 ohm bays. I pulled one off of a translator with no innerbay anything at all, feedline connected directly to the single bay. That far connector looks really ragged... i bet there's...

Re: STORQ Users--Downgrade coming

Do they (the iPump—is that an awful name or what?) switch according to schedule (if being used that way)? I have a 1RU unit that’s been back to the factory once but which I still can’t trust to switch to the correct channel or feed the right program by the web-based scheduler. This is on Salem, BTW...

Re: STORQ Users--Downgrade coming

I just put one of those new Ipumps in service to replace a failed 1RU Ipump. FWIW the capacitors are what failed in the old receiver, small enclosure with an undersized fan... not my favorite receiver.

it passes a small amount of audio that is audible regardless of the state of the faders or on/off switch or regardless of whether or not board has power
Grounding those consoles solves a lot of strange problems. I have 4 of them still in service.

Dave, what do you use to wash the PC boards?
Beautiful work by the way....and there is no such thing as "too much detail" when it comes to info on
repairing those supplies. Switchers are in everything now.

Steve....I think I found the problem, shorted wiring at the meter but the meter seems OK. I'll let you know when I reassemble it..and thank you very much for the offer. I also found out that when you order Mica caps from Kintronics they come drop-shipped from Commercial Radio Company. I tried callin...

Re: looking for review of dbx 266XS

AM talk morning show interviews and phone calls. For that kind of use the dbx will be just fine. It's done all the time with this kind of tool in live and conference settings. Talk is different to full programme material where a multiband excels. I'd try it for plain voice, might work fine. You can...
