Re: Continental 816R-3C IPA

In the nearly 50 years that I have been in broadcast engineering I have made mistaken assumptions about a problem too many times. I may or may not have spent the better part of two hours troubleshooting an intermittent ATU network one night only to find out a bug had crawled into an arc gap and low...

Re: LPFM Antenna Recommendations

Two antennas, same site, same transmitter models, same transmission line type and lengths, frequencies are about 2.5 MHz apart: ERI 100A: VSWR is 1.06 Nicom BKG77: 1.32 Both are "out of the box" installations. I really don't have an issue with the Nicoms but you'll want to consider how much it will ...

Re: ESPN3 streaming parameters?

Just logged in and let it run for awhile and did not encounter any issues. I don't have the ability to drill down into the stream specs other than what their player gives me, which is attached. Maybe it'll help.

Re: New member - LPFM transmitter recommendations

We recently had a station in our city get a NOV due to using a non-compliant transmitter with their translator so this is something the FCC looks at. Translator transmitters only have to be type approved which is a different process. I would suspect that translator was spewing garbage which is why ...

They have the side-wiper parts? Cool.

Yeah, if you don't catch Dan when he's in, you won't be ordering. Part of his charm. ;) I've had decent luck faxing a list of what I need and he usually gets back with what he has the same day.

Re: V & H antenna radiated power

ERP is calculated in the horizontal plane regardless of polarization, at 0°from horizontal. That's often a point of confusion. The vertical plane is usually an entirely different pattern depending on the number of bays, etc. FM stations are licensed for x ERP horizonal and/or y ERP vertical polariza...

Until towers can erect themselves, networks can plan themselves, antennas can mount themselves and electronics can install themselves, there will always be RF engineers.

Re: looking for review of dbx 266XS

First off, in this application you get what you pay for. Nothing in that price range is going to do even a passable job controlling levels for something like this. As mentioned the 266 is a mixing tool, not a mastering tool. Can you set the input to the recorder to -10 when the board indicates 0? Th...

I sent them a message several days ago with 3 simple questions about the VS300 and no one responded.
How did you send them a message?

Re: Required acres of land

Most jurisdictions in populated areas are deathly afraid of lawsuits so they require 100% fall radius. That means 2.6 acres, a 190 foot radius from the tower. If your local permitting agency is not quite so inane, you can easily tuck one of these into a corner of a field somewhere at 50% guy radius ...

What browser are you using? Do you have Flash installed?

The AUI connects inbound on port 80 but then redirects to 3501.

Re: Blue tooth mixer and high school games

What are you wanting to use Bluetooth for? The audio connection to a phone?

Bluetooth has extremely limited range so anything not within about 20 feet will be sketchy if it works at all.

Re: DX-50 works as speaker

"station audio comes out of the back of the TX" That is definitely something arcing under modulation conditions. It is possible to tune one of these into a load which will cause all sorts of issues at full power while showing 0 reflected power. Your first step should be to verify that the transmitte...

Re: SoundExchange Solution?

"sans whatever SoundExchange wanted"

The problem with that is SoundExchange wants $ for each copyrighted recording played. Unless the programming is original to the station and/or public domain, there isn't a way to "sans" it.
