Re: TFT 3320 CAP converter

Considering that TFT is TFTs up and there is no support for any of their stuff anymore, your advice to get something else is probably the wisest path.

Re: Harris CD Link

And they wonder why no one wants to buy their stuff anymore. That ship sailed awhile ago. About 10 years back a client took a lightning strike and called Harris for parts to repair their Gates 1. They were only 60 miles from Quincy and wanted to drive over to pick them up. Harris tech support said ...

I'm pretty sure that was suggested last time we discussed it.

Re: High Pitched Tone in FM Audio?

Given Gates Air's less-than-competent web presence, I would just call 'em.

Re: High Pitched Tone in FM Audio?

Does it go away when you switch the stereo generator to mono? Are you running any SCAs? RBDS? Older Optimods were notorious for the power supplies having high frequency oscillations which would show up as birdies in stereo, but you say you changed out the processor already. This should be showing up...

Using the ant_sys_id #1 (WYCL, Niles, OH) as an example...the data in each record is pipe delimited, making it easy to import into just about anything. Re: FCC AM Database

Since this was originally designed to be an engineering database ant_sys_id is the primary key field (index) in the am_ant_sys table and for any record which contains technical data and each one is unique. A DA-2 station would have two am_ant_sys entries, one day and one night. Usually they are sequ...

Re: FCC AM Database

I wrote mine when they were still on the old VAX system and then updated it in 2000 when CDBS replaced that. One of these days I should re-do it in something that doesn't require DOSBOX to run it. The tables and data are text files, and the index associations are published. It's non-trivia...

Re: Translators

It was proposed in comments to the Further Proposed Rulemaking. The only bit they didn't do is the 40 mile extension since it is redundant.

Re: Translators

The rule now is 60 dBu within the 2 mV/m -or- a 25 mile radius circle, whichever is larger.

I have to say that I am underwhelmed by the OmniOne.
I've had decent luck with them on AM but I agree with your FM analysis. They just don't sound that good.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

I put one of those erector sets together by myself. Was the last thing I did before I became a consultant. Was for NBC's "The Source" network in 1983. Was fun to tune around on the SCPC receiver's IF looking for stuff until we got the 7300 DATS receiver. :)

Again, if you want to go with the Omnia "8" option let me know. Otherwise I'll tell him to sell it to someone else.

Re: 2200 or 5500I or something else

How competitive is the market? Are you up against a bunch of class-Cs with $15,000 squashboxes? The 5500 is nice but you will notice a large difference between it and, say, an 8600 or an Omnia, and they sound a little "crunchy". An engineering acquaintance in Minnesota has assembled what is basicall...

Re: Phasing receive antenna for translator

You need to make sure the antennas are in phase where they combine together. That is dependent mostly on the connecting coax length and where the boom ends are with respect to each other, and the angle that the desired signal reaches the antenna(s). Scala had some tech notes in their old catalogs re...
