Re: Band stop-Notch Filter suggestions

Just to clarify...it's not a shorting stub. Leave the end open, since what you want is a 1/4 wave at the reject frequency and that'll reflect j0 at the tee.

Re: Band stop-Notch Filter suggestions

How much rejection is "good enough"? I've had pretty decent luck getting strong FM signals out of EAS receiver antenna connections by using a simple quarter-wave open stub teed off the the coax near the receiver. If you use quality coax and an actual tee adapter (not a splitter) you should be able t...

Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

I was wondering why predicted (50/50) interference contours do not correlate almost exactly with predicted signal strength predictions. For interference calculations, power seems to be more important than height. It seems to me that if the flux density for the 60 dB contour is the same with the FCC...

which I'm sure pleased the other owner in town whose three stations never left the air.
I guess it pleased him enough to not file a complaint.

Re: Translator Question...

I have at least one client with daytime 2 mV/m contours well past 25 miles, so unless the FX 60 dBu is outside the 25 mile circle then it is unlikely to run into problems if the AM has to run at reduced power *temporarily*. You'll start getting the regulatory side-eye once this goes on for a year wi...

Re: Audio Bandwidth of an AM Broadcast Station

I remember back in the early 1990's when AMAX was around to address that. That was one component of the program, the others being the NRSC-2 occupied bandwidth mask and the change from 0.5:0.5 to 0.5:0.25/0.25:0.5 mV/m first-adjacent protection, and moving some of the most interference-causing stat...

Re: Translator Question...

The translator has to go off if the AM is off for more than a few days. However, there is already one operator trying to get an STA to cheat on this rule so we'll see what happens.

I suspect the answer will be 'no'.

Re: 317c1 parts

that should be a no brainer. Indeed. A client out west where the temp routinely exceeds 100°F removed one 30 year old monster 3 ton AC from the roof and replaced it with two 2 ton mini splits, and has them set 10 degrees apart. This is in a small building with two 5 KW solid state AMs, an SX5 and a...

How long ago was that, Jake? We had a similar problem with a 35 toward the end of ‘17, bought the power supply from them but it was considerably more than $1200, IIRC.

Re: Can´t receive sat freq over 11500 V or H

Back in the early days of satellite-delivered programming in the USA it was not unusual to have to enclose the dish in some sort of metal mesh to avoid terrestrial interference from things like AT&T microwave relay installations. Do you have enough room (and permission) to build a "mesh wall" (basic...

Re: Revitalized AM Translators

Delaying enforcement until a request for extension of the STA would keep the clowns from gaming the system and not penalize the listeners of the guy trying to be honest. Just sayin’. The Commission is generally lenient in genuine out-of-the-control-of-the-licensee situations IF you don't lie about ...

Nautel makes the VS series, but some of the innards are OEM'd, mostly the power supplies of which they had a really bad batch of awhile back.

Re: Revitalized AM Translators

A translator obtained under one of the move-in windows cannot change the primary station until four years of continuous operation (FX and AM) have passed, and can never be changed if it was obtained via an Auction 99 or 100 new station filing. It is possible that the one you hear is not part of the ...
