Re: Tower lighting

Howdy,
I am not familiar with Unimar, but have had good luck with Dialite products on lower powered AM sites. They might be worth a call. also, Phase Tek has an isolation coil that can keep the light controller on the cold side of the tower for multi-conductor lighting systems.

Re: Nautel NV10LT

Yes Kevin, I did those steps. I think this "issue" requires reprogramming the Remote I/O settings. The TX on/off function works with the remote control.
Thanks

Re: Nautel NV10LT

I just installed a new NV LT 7.5 rig,, jumped up and played nicely right out of the box! When trying to interface with a local laptop it took rebooting the transmitter to get the changes to the IP protocol to take. I am trying to get control of the presets with a remote control unit. By taking the P...

Re: Static Dissipators?

I have been putting the ERI dissipators on towers for several years now. They seem help bleed off the charge before the strike hits. The lightning rods should be in place also,, every little bit can help. Proper grounding in essential in any installation. Nautel has an excellent white paper on how t...

Re: Cumulus buys Gates Air Transmitters

We often think of cash flow as the measure of success. But, when an operation gets very big it is a matter of debt flow that keeps the ship moving. I had a small venture that went bankrupt and the IRS let us right the whole thing off and gave a credit for the lost $$. Me,, I am a simple guy,, but if...

Re: SWR/Return loss question???

Howdy, Changing the length of the cable to the combiner changes the phase angle to the reflectometer. The VSWR is still there, it just "magically" disappears. The readings you saw before the jumper change are a VSWR of 1.2:1. The Sira Dipole spec sheet shows the upper portion of the band for that an...

Z 10 rigs

Howdy,
I had heard that the power amps for the Z 10 Harris rig are getting not so available these days. Is that true?
Thanks

Re: How Old is Old?

Lee,
Winter burn outs are the hardest to fix due to the weather delays and the short work time in the cold. That like section looks like the watch band spring let go. How does the rest of the line look in a wide (350 - 700 MHz) Time Domain pulse?

8 vsb test gear

Howdy,
I am looking for a reasonably priced PC based 8 VSB analyzer. The Rhode Schwarz FSH3 looks like a fine unit but is more than I am hoping to spend. My needs are for portability and a good level of accuracy for analyzing transmitter output signals. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: NPR Story Says Towers Kill Birds

The biologist is a she and last year I had a project that triggered the NEPA EA study (cost about $5 per word) and she called up with questions. 1. What kind of tower lighting are you going to use? Answer= White Strobes,,, Response= Oh,,, that is good because they do not attract birds. 2. Is there a...

Re: NPR Story Says Towers Kill Birds

Howdy, I visit a number of different sites each year and yes there are bird bodies to be found fairly often. The Spring migration has more strikes than the fall. I have stopped at a few wind generators and did not see any bird bodies, but I am sure they have more strikes than towers in the same area...

Re: How Old is Old?

Wear and tear on the bullets in a 35 year old antenna should be replaced. ERI recommends rebuilds every 20 or so years. This does depend on the structure. If the antenna is side mounted on a guyed towed there is less sway. If the antenna is on a mast, there is a lot more sway and rebuilding is impor...
