Re: Daytime Impedance high?

When Harris had their big inventory sell-off a few years ago (prior to the broadcast division getting spun off and becoming Gates-Air), did they have any AM parts and pieces that wound up being purchased by someone? I recall that SCMS wound up with a fair amount of Harris stuff.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Apparently I didn't armstrong the bolts tight enough on this Comtech dish. Wind spun it a little bit over the weekend and there were a lot of unhappy receivers.

The engineer who fixed it took one of those "thousand word" pics. Insert your own caption....

Re: Streamer PC hit by ransomware

As far as I know, the machine was hooked up directly to the DSL with no firewall. And yes it probably had TeamViewer on it. My staff guy working on it thinks it may have come from the factory pre-loaded with the stuff. Not sure if I'm buying that, but can't rule it out. The first attempt at recovery...

Streamer PC hit by ransomware

One of our radio station streaming encoder PCs was taken down over the weekend by ransomware. I don't know which variant it was. We use Triton as our streaming provider. The PC is dual-NIC'd with one NIC going to a DSL for the outbound stream, and the other pointing to the local LAN to pick up artis...

Re: Burk ARC-16 ESI Card

If the ESI will not answer incoming calls, but is otherwise working (calls out OK), the ring detect optoisolator may be bad. On the older boards this is a 4N35, socketed and pretty easy to find and replace. I had a Burk remote control at one site that developed distorted audio on phone calls. Turned...

I'm thinking about taking one of those black mesh POS dishes and making a fire pit out of it.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Last Friday, I went back for another try at the crappy mesh dish that kicked my a$$. This time I had a helper. After thrashing around for awhile and not finding any useful signals, we finally lucked onto the right combination of azimuth and skew, and the correct waveforms magically appeared on the s...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Yesterday I made an attempt to repoint one of those crappy old black mesh dishes at AMC-18. It was an utter goat rodeo. I had TWO spectrum analyzers, a fresh LNB, and pictures of all the relevant transponder pictograms. I could not see anything on either instrument that matched the pictures, at any ...

Re: EAS over Barix

I have an LP1 and LP2 station. Both of them in the last year have had problems with downstream stations decoding EAS alerts. After chasing a bunch of different things on the LP2, it was discovered that bypassing the "people meter enhancement device" solved the problem. So I rigged up relays in the S...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Spent some time in the barrel the last couple of afternoons, trying to repoint our first dish of about a half-dozen or so. We are lucky to have a spare dish to play around with, without worrying about disrupting any feeds. It is a Comtech 3.8m of unknown vintage, probably about 15-20 years old, simi...

Re: My old R16 Audioarts console has lost a Mic module!

If you have a spare line-level input on your console, you might consider running the mic through an external processor box with a line-level output, and use that to feed the console. The possible downside is that the monitor speaker muting might be tricky to set up with a line input. I don't recall ...

Re: Any word on the length of the pending NPT?

i know there's a joke on there but I can't quite get it. Billy Joel's song "The Entertainer" has a line that goes, "It was a beautiful song but it ran too long /if you're gonna have a hit, you gotta make it fit /so they cut it down to 3:05" Was gonna reference what Dan Ingram allegedly said about t...

Re: Sat. AMC-8

Was that one of those (I forget the manufacturer), white faced, single rack height SCPC receivers with little chrome handles and thumbwheels? Micro Phase? I remember buying one of those in the early 90s to get Iowa Hawkeye sports coverage. Worked at a news talk station that wanted to carry CNN Head...
