Re: EAS over Barix

I have an LP1 and LP2 station. Both of them in the last year have had problems with downstream stations decoding EAS alerts. After chasing a bunch of different things on the LP2, it was discovered that bypassing the "people meter enhancement device" solved the problem. So I rigged up relays in the S...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Spent some time in the barrel the last couple of afternoons, trying to repoint our first dish of about a half-dozen or so. We are lucky to have a spare dish to play around with, without worrying about disrupting any feeds. It is a Comtech 3.8m of unknown vintage, probably about 15-20 years old, simi...

Re: My old R16 Audioarts console has lost a Mic module!

If you have a spare line-level input on your console, you might consider running the mic through an external processor box with a line-level output, and use that to feed the console. The possible downside is that the monitor speaker muting might be tricky to set up with a line input. I don't recall ...

Re: Any word on the length of the pending NPT?

i know there's a joke on there but I can't quite get it. Billy Joel's song "The Entertainer" has a line that goes, "It was a beautiful song but it ran too long /if you're gonna have a hit, you gotta make it fit /so they cut it down to 3:05" Was gonna reference what Dan Ingram allegedly said about t...

Re: Sat. AMC-8

Was that one of those (I forget the manufacturer), white faced, single rack height SCPC receivers with little chrome handles and thumbwheels? Micro Phase? I remember buying one of those in the early 90s to get Iowa Hawkeye sports coverage. Worked at a news talk station that wanted to carry CNN Head...

Re: Sat. AMC-8

Mark Johnson of Ka You Communications provided a sort of explanation and update, on another list. To paraphrase, the bird at 139 West used to carry a lot of voice/data traffic between Alaska and the continental US, as part of a cooperative venture between Alascom and the then-owners of that satellit...

Good ole analog

We are moving a cluster of AM stations to a new studio and have to deal with STL problems. One of the stations has an existing 950 STL link. It's a Moseley 606, and those systems are getting progressively harder to work on. The other two stations are currently on T1 lines and I'd like to put them on...

This all happened over eight months ago according to the date stamps. Wonder if the OP has resolved the problem by now.

Re: Sat. AMC-8

There is a thread on this subject on the Broadcast engineering reflector. So I guess it's really a thing.

Time to get out the WD40 and sledgehammers. I hope there is a reasonable grace period for the transition to the new orbital slot, wherever it is.

Re: Gates 5. Again.

Mike, your story reminds me of something my daughter did a couple of years ago. She took our old Honda Accord to a gas station, and somehow managed to put a full tank of diesel in it. I'm wondering how she got the nozzle to fit in the Honda's filler tube without spraying diesel everywhere. Then she ...

Re: Audio Issue

I would make sure the transmitter is tuned correctly. Tube transmitters can sound really bad if they are far out of tune, and reception can also be compromised.

Re: Got DX-ES??

Mike, that address is a bit misleading...there aren't really any "high mountains" in the immediate vicinity. Although I do live on a bit of a ridge that is about 400 feet above sea level. The subdivision is called South Mountain, which always makes me think of the big FM tower site in Phoenix. Just ...

Re: The Looming Engineering Age Crisis

I agree this is an excellent article. I'm a little mystified how it showed up in my Facebook feed, attached to a picture of the rack room at my office. I got into the engineering side about 30 years ago, mainly because I was burned out from doing air shifts, not that I was all that great of a "talen...

Re: DaySequerra Purchases Orban

They work just fine for use with translators using off-air audio. I have a number of them doing just that.

I did have one quit working this week...the tuner was fine, but lightning blew out a balun on the yagi antenna connected to it. And it was only about 10 feet off the ground
