Re: You need this

Just like the guys who use the monster thick speaker cable who forget just how small the pc traces are between the amplifier's output and the speaker terminals.

Re: Hello?

Don't worry, the quiet you're enjoying right now should not be confused with dead air, dropped carrier or other things that can ruin a weekend for us radio folk.

Re: Sound Exchange cost questions

I ran a webstream for 7+ years and once I got tired of watching the expenses rise every time I garnered new listenership. At least the royalties are lower for companion streams for licensed broadcasters.

Re: Broadcasting Yearbook, 1935-2010

I actually used David's resources and they came in quite handy. Along with other assorted publications I was able to find out quite a bit about a station I not only listened to as a kid but eventually ended up engineering (the tribute website is listed in my signature). There's quite a bit on his si...

RIP Ralph Winquist

I just received word that broadcast engineer Ralph Winquist passed away a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if anyone here remembers Ralph but besides being quite active in the broadcast industry he provided quite a bit of assistance to non-comm stations here in Connecticut, including WPKN, WMNR, WV...

I've been using them for rocks for Belar RF amps. Guess I'm going to have to find a "plan b" now.

Re: Quiet UPS

FYI: Been using APC brand for years and while some work fine with the batteries lasting for many years there are a few that seem to overcharge the batteries to the point of bulging and failure. FYI: I do notice the APC fans will come on when the batteries begin to get warm and swollen, so that's a t...

Re: 2200 or 5500I or something else

I have to say that I am underwhelmed by the OmniOne. I've had decent luck with them on AM but I agree with your FM analysis. They just don't sound that good. I have an Omnia One that I use as an emergency loaner and pretty much agree, but if you run something in front of it I've had very good luck ...

Re: How many entries are in your HOST file?

Since I regularly use a Mac I use a program called Little Snitch instead of filling a host file with entries. I usually block IPs and URLs like malware links or other bad actors. It saves a lot of time. It's been awhile but I think there use to be a similar program called Black Ice for the Windows p...

I also believe you can mute the unit from audibly reciting its IP over the air, too.

I wasn't aware that he was the same Bill from Straight Wire Audio. Talk about a small world.

Classic Optimod Refurbisher Bill Sacks Passes

An engineering colleague just informed me that Bill Sacks apparently lost his battle with cancer. I don't have any other details at the present time.

Condolences going out to his wife, Kim and the rest of his family.

Re: Designing website with Muse,Wix,Weebly vs. straight HTML

Designing the site is one thing, but maintaining it is a whole 'nother beast. You may want to explore content management systems like WordPress which can be custom tailored. I'm sure some of the hosting you mentioned either has WP or their own CMS that can do an equally good job. If properly configu...

Re: Simian or Station Playlist?

I wrote the original 2007 review for StationPlaylist for Radio World and I thought (and still do) StationPlaylist is much more reliable than Simian or its predecessor, WaveStation. I heard about a horror story about a station having so much trouble with WS that ad clients started jumping ship from t...

Re: TOH time tones

I seem to recall, either in a written piece in one of the broadcast publications or on a video, Larry Titus built the custom tone generator for WTIC. I recall a rack mounted device, possibly with a display screen but it was many, many years ago I remember the video or article.
