Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

...Then WW1 started pressuring affiliates to get back on a satellite feed because their servers couldn't handle all the stations running off internet feeds... I was figuring that would happen. I guess if I were a jerk at WW1, I would compile a list of receivers that were a-never tuned to AMC...

Hopefully the original problem doesn't become moot as a tornadic thunderstorm threatens the KMA tower site here in the next few minutes...

Re: RFI-Resistant USB Audio Interface

Good place for a 111C repeat coil. Ground the electrostatic shield terminal. Lots of terminal space to solder in the MOV's.

Replace the 31 yo with an older guy...
Indeed...at 55, I was the youngest of the foursome that lifted our ring onto the pipe. :D

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

We have a 1984 vintage Comtech, so decided to buy a new dish. Got a 12' DH dish in March, been sitting in the garage while we got around to building the pole. Wednesday four of us tried to haul the mounting ring (not the dish--which is made of four aluminum petals--but just the iron mounting ring)....

Re: Satellite Metrics

We are pulling from Galaxy 4. NPR... You mean what's now G16 at 99 west? It's busy too, and you have busy C-band satellites on either side of you. Could be some intermittent splatter. Anyway, if EbNo is staying above 10, I wouldn't be too concerned, assuming you've checked your feedhorn for any dev...

Re: Satellite Metrics

If you are moved to AMC18, that's something you'll expect to see, due to all the additional traffic on AMC18 and the adjacent birds compared to the nearly dead environment around AMC8.

Re: TFT 3320 CAP converter

Call or email Darryl Parker (408) 219-5579 darryleparker(AT)comcast.net. He's still attempting to support TFT stuff in a limited capacity. Thanks, Chuck...Darryl sent me the basics of setup, which I forwarded to the guy at the station. Turns out he had the geocodes (US, state, local area) in the ev...

TFT 3320 CAP converter

I know someone with a 3320 CAP converter. He says the unit appears to be polling the FEMA site just fine, but the processed alert log shows it hasn't actually processed a message since 2015! I didn't ask him how he passed the last National EAS test. Of course, he's not getting any CAP tests....

Re: STL dropouts....back today

Happens with our TV STL a few times a year, and at about the same times you list. The only thing you could do is get a second antenna in the spot the ducting forces the signal to. The telco folks have designed space-diversity into many of their MW systems for years...a second dish is mounted a speci...

Re: High Pitched Tone in FM Audio?

I have also ran into the rotten jumper issue on the HT10. In my case, the IPA was erratic. The outer jacket of the RG213 had cracked off and the exposed braid was shorting to the IPA regulator heatsink. The only thing handy was a short piece of RG8 with N connectors left over from a Marti antenna in...

Re: High Pitched Tone in FM Audio?

Is the transmitter still running the Digit or Digit CD exciter? If so, get ahold of service bulletins FM-535-WCF and FM-580-WCF from the Gatesair web site. Both bulletins address audio tones generated in the exciter caused by dried-up capacitors. Perhaps something was missed in the previous repair a...

Re: Cleaning out the basement

Several stations, especially those far away from decent cell and internet access, still use Marti. One of my clients use Marti almost every night this time of year. SGII power supplies are exact replacements for the control power supplies in many BE transmitters. A couple of networks still use SGIII...
