Re: Tom Osenkowsky passes away

Very sad loss. Tom Osenkowsky was a superb engineer, and very skilled and knowledgeable. He was helpful and friendly to all! He will be missed, R.I.P. Tom, you made the world a better place.

Re: New member - LPFM transmitter recommendations

There's a reason why I swear by Nautel and not at them, it's called their people. They support their gear, it's reasonably well built and and conservatively engineered. And they take care of their owners and caretakers. Perfect they may not be to everybody, but I swear by Nautel gear. (P.S. I like m...

Re: Low resource SDR Software

Suggestion! Look for an inexpensive business class laptop, Core i5 based Lenovo ThinkPad T 410 boxes in nice shape can be had for under $100. Usually you'll have USB2 and 8GB RAM Limit. I use these machines as daily drivers, and happy with them. Good battery life, especially with the extended batter...

Agree, the old Harris DX line were good solid reliable transmitters. Usually dependable. Arguably my favorite SS transmitter from Big H.

Re: Dead Harris - X1000B Suggestion

No complaints here about the BE AM1a either. Had one module have a problem, BE exchanged it for a repaired one for reasonable rates. Get the optional antenna tuning unit, a good grounding system, a good load, and clean power in a clean, cool transmitter site, they work, and are reliable as any engin...

Re: Dead Harris - X1000B Suggestion

Seconded. Armstrong AM transmitters are not supported, pain in the rear to live with. And you can't repair them. Get a BE AM1A or a Nautel J 1000 if buying a new transmitter, both are reliable, maintainable transmitters. The latter is for me the best Solid State new AM rig you can buy, And Nautel su...

Re: Bad hum

Yes, those Marti STL 10 power supplies were always a frequent hum cause and common failure items. That previous post recommends exactly what I did to the ones I maintain, they've been vastly more reliable ever since.

Re: The box is too heavy to launch

Have you tried a trebuchet??? Excellent Idea. Pull! The more elaborate the Trebuchet, the better the Trebuchet! Pull! Indeed. And Pull! some more. POS transmitter and broadcast equipment Trebuchet Party, my idea of a fun weekend with lots of liquid refreshment, Trebuchets, and engineer fun!

Taking a shotgun to that transmitter is probably the best idea.
I have a better idea. How about .50 BMG aimed right, and do the job right! Or Uzi therapy!

Love this sight, makes many an older FIM less expensive to use in the long run, and much easier battery supply.

Yes, and well put. Put the GatesAir brand on the logos, and keep it otherwise as is. Good enough until a proper redesign. A step in the right direction.

Re: How many AM's in your area have dropped HD?

AM HD= Should have never been legalized to begin with. Too much interference. AM needs better tuner sections, for NRSC to go away, and for C-Quam to be in use for all AM music formats, Wideband AM better than narrow band cell phone grade.
