Re: Your Biggest On Air Screw up..

I was part time at the time at the #1 station in the market. My shift had just finished and we went to the bird for the overnight show (After MidNite with Blair Garner). Severe storms started rolling thru so I stuck around for a bit. WeatherEye gal calls with an update. Now this was a while ago - so...

Re: Streamer PC hit by ransomware

We used to have that problem as well...our box would get hijacked pretty badly. The ultimate solution? I wiped and installed Ubuntu along with a very restrictive software firewall. Haven't had an issue except for the occasional reboot. I have multiple sound cards in this thing along with multiple in...

Re: Nautel RDS

Jeff, We also use ArcticPalm - and we can get our data out with the internal RDS - but agreed, would LOVE to see the adaptation of dynamic PS. I'm sure you guys are working on it. P.S. This is our first Nautel (VS-300) - and we are impressed. Especially with the Orban Inside...that thing is cool! De...

Re: Worst FM Transmitter

Bob,

Must have missed that bulletin. We recently had to replace the 48V PS in our DAX-1. Harris wanted $400 for the replacement. Found the same replacement for $50 on a reputable electronics site.

Fun trying to tear that power supply shelf apart to get to the damn thing...*shudder*

Re: "Midnight" engineering

Very nice - although I got nothing as close as you. The one I remember is when our DAX-1 was having PA_BRIDGE faults. Knowing we needed to get a new module for it - and having none avail - i tried to coax the MW-1A into the antenna. No matter what I did - had no output. it was about 12:30-1:00 AM. G...

Re: Worst FM Transmitter

Kelly : (RCA BTF-20E series) ...the stupid little light bulb in the VSWR meter burns out and shuts the transmitter off the air... That amused me so much, I had to register! :D Reminds me of a touchy Harris FM20K I used to babysit for the engineers, on an offshore station. There was a multi-function...

Re: A little transmitter "feature"

So new mental note: Don't let the room temp drop below 32*! Been there, done that late this winter. At a paticular station, it's FM-10T popped off. Ran up to the hill, and mind you it was MIGHTY cold (like probably -10 or so) - shack was just a hair under freezing. Seems that the 250 watt exciter d...

Re: EAS Recommendations?

+1 on the DASDEC-II. We've been running one here for quite a few years now and it just sits and runs. We had a TFT 911 before, so we knew there was going to be a little curve going into it, but the announcers that need to run it seem to have taken to it like fish in water. We also run it "segmented"...

Re: Have you ever accidently taken yourself off the air?

Another "war story" from Da Fossil: Actually, this one is in reverse.....about putting the station back on the air. Got called in to help with parts replacement and some TLC on a Gates 5 am. We needed to put the backup Bauer 5kw AM on the air while fixing the main. The CE went thru the procedure to...
