Re: What are good ISDN alternatives?

From what I hear, while you may not be able to get a BRI in many areas, you might be able to get a PRI demarced and provide PRI > BRI equipment yourself to get BRIs. I've heard tales of older Cisco gear being used for this. Of course, this gets costly quickly but if you need a BRI it may be an optio...

I would recommend that you never expose something like this to the internet directly. A router with a builtin VPN server is cheap and you can create all sorts of complexity to keep prying eyes/fingers out.

Re: Nautel NV 15 LT

To be clear, at least with the NV series (non-LT), the UI takes a while to load the first time as you are downloading the flash app that runs the connection. It even takes longer on a locally attached machine (but not as much). Unless you upgrade or clear your browser cache (or use a new computer/br...

Re: Help Needed for Audio Signal chain for a TV station

Backup is as easy as a patch bay/jack field. Anything line level that goes into the mixer goes through one, any outputs go through one, any air chain items go through one. Need to bypass the mixer? just put two patch cords in. Need to change the Satellite to get a different audio source? patchcords....

Re: IP Codec

For software based, you can try James Harrison's OpenOB . It currently uses opus (although I believe you can have it use other codecs) and I've tested it on a pair of Raspberry Pis with good results. I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to get working with a netbook in the field and a PC back at the s...

Bite the bullet. Go eeney-meaney-mini-mo--and teach Mo how to run one of the simple ripping programs. Find a quiet place, set up a system for keeping track of what discs are copied and buy (or install) a computer with a large hard drive and a ripping program How do you handle all of the metadata th...

Something like this perhaps?

I'm not sure what the price point is on it but I'd imagine it is above US$10k.

Re: some viewers Can't hear our audio

You need main AC3 (usually flagged as English Complete-Main). Secondary-service AC3 service (often flagged as Spanish Complete-Main regardless of content but I'd flag it to match its content so long as that flag is not the same as the primary) is highly recommended (if you can do it) as a certain CE...

Re: Comark (TV Transmission) returns!

Really? I mean, yes, we always talk to a human but there were so many variants of each 'model' transmitter that often the voice on the other end of the line has no idea what box we're talking about, even with the model, station name, and serial numbers...

Re: FM Coverage Maps

I've got some parameters that I've used in RadioMobile but they definitely need tweaking. RM lets you build ND antennas so it's helpful but of course stations licensed for ND often are not truly ND. My coverage plots are generally 'close' to reality (but they don't take interference into account, on...

Re: HD-SDI "volume control"?

Proc amps and adjustments for such are few and far between relative to their comparable analog-world products... That said, there may be a 'ready made' solution for you depending on where in your workflow you need this. Wohler makes rack panels that let you route, listen, and adjust levels on audio;...

Sounds like there's something wrong with the control for that relay... I imagine it is driven by some sort of transistorized sensing circuitry? Bad caps in that section perhaps?

Re: Firewall Port Forwarding for Omnia Processor access

Why not create a VPN or SSH tunnel instead of port forwarding? Either of these will add a layer of security that you don't currently have and allow you to reach other systems on that connection and (more) easily change what you're looking at.

Re: Subtitles / Closed Captions

You could try recording the program stream or, if they're just "old style" captions (608), you could also try recording the content (over an analog composite connection so that Line 21 is intact). Once you have the recording, use a tool like CCExtractor. Results not guaranteed to be useful but they ...
