Re: RF Spectrum Analyzer

I know next to nothing about Canadian communication rules, but looking at the analyzer you're asking about, a couple of things come to mind: First of all... does your regulatory agency require some kind of calibration reference? If so, there doesn't seem to be anything on the Ebay page that says the...

Re: Women Hearing Distorsion on Station After STL realign

The only Nicom I had got 41 dBuV on a 26 mile path with PR-950s. We got full quieting with stereo, but as I recall, we didn't have a lot of overhead. Drop the transmitter down much and the noise level would become audible. Sorry... don't know what that number was for us, but our "good" number seems ...

Re: computer audio interface - alternative to 3.5mm

I'm using Intel NUCs with Henry USB matchboxes to drive 2 FM and 3 AM transmitters. Sound is great, no computer noise, I get more than enough output to drive the AMs, and no discernible overshoots. Analog inputs... AES and analog outputs. About the only thing you can't do with them is generate a com...

FCC drops main studio rule

So... question(s). Given the current state of enforcement, lets consider a station that's dropped its studio and is feeding from an IP box at the transmitter. EAS is there, too. How would an inspector go about arranging a spot check? Call the national office and ask for an appointment? I didn't see ...

Re: DX-10 Controller Probs

Ditto on recommending you talk with Ralph. I just finished a frequency change on a DX-10. There are some capacitor-type changes in the new models, which we had to adapt to my client's rig. Ralph worked through the version numbers, went out to the factory and got some pictures of a model that was und...

Re: RCA BTA1M transmitter

So... why did the industry move away from the 833 and over to the 4-400? It seemed the 833-based transmitters were better performers, especially those that were still in use as the Dorrough and CRL processors were introduced. I'm guessing the industry felt the same way, introducing the 4-500 and , f...

Re: Dead Harris - X1000B Suggestion

I lean toward the AM-1A but haven't much experience with their support lately. You shouldn't need it much. In my experience, kept clean and cool, their gear has run as reliably as anyone else's. Come to think of it, I have a couple of their transmitters, running in hot, humid and dusty buildings th...

Re: 6 KW Transmitter Ballpark price

Just wondering why no mention of BE? I understand some may want to push them toward the "Yugo" pile, but I have a couple of their STX FM rigs and a whole raft of AM-X variants. Can't say I've had any more trouble with their products than anyone else's and, for the most part, they've run without a mu...

Re: No sound onair after fading in Outside Broadcast feed

For the canceling to be heard as described, a monaural board monitor would have to be a sum of both channels. Merely sampling one side or the other would result in good audio regardless of phase. If the poster has control of the audio processor (he didn't say if he was AM or FM), he could try turnin...

Re: RFI-Resistant USB Audio Interface

This doesn't address the budget issue, but if all else fails, get a "USB Matchbox II" from Henry. It replaces the computer audio circuitry, is balanced in and out and can produce +10 to drive a transmitter directly, if you needed to. I have 3 of these in a 5kW AM station, sitting less than 100 feet ...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

My daughter and I finished an install this week. 3.7m dish from Dawnco. With a Bird Dog, looped through to a spec-an, and then final-peaking with one of the station's XDS receivers, we got 12.9s out of it... called it good and locked it down.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Hey All, We've got our massive main dish still pointed at AMC-8. But we've got a spare mesh dish on a polar mount that used to be pointed at Galaxy 16. So my thought was: #1. Move the mesh dish to AMC-15. #2. Move all the receivers to the mesh dish #3. Move the main dish #4. Move all receivers back...

Re: BW Broadcast transmitter

Interesting.

My experience with them has been completely different.

British sensibilities, maybe?

I'd love to have Nautel everywhere. Unfortunately, not everyone can budget for a Cadillac. For them, BW fits many applications very well, IMHO.

Re: BW Broadcast transmitter

I've got a bunch of BW gear out there... some 25 or so units of various sizes. I've had one power supply and one exciter board fail. Both units were returned to BW, which turned the repairs around quickly at reasonable prices. The failure rate I've experienced has been no worse than any other brand,...

Re: MW10B-A little help?

I have some of that as well, but I have to say I'm getting very good service from the last 3 AM tube rigs I have ... a couple of 5kW Power Rocks and a Continental 316F-1. The Continental is about to give way to a DX-10, but will make an excellent aux. So long as the tubes are available and Continent...
