EAS Tones - Specification Source ?

1 - Does anyone know the official source and governing body of the technical specifications of the tones or signaling used to trigger EAS systems? 2 - And where we can get a copy of such? 3 - Also, I assume such devices must be "type approved" by the FCC or FEMA or who ever the governing body or bod...

How to find tower rental tenants?

We have an unused 198 foot tower and are wondering how to advertise it and find tenants. Somebody said the tower rental business was all over but others say not. What is your opinion? Also, what are typical rental rates... per foot and for equipment space? (or however they do it) and is electric inc...

Small diameter balanced mic cable OK? Source?

We have run a number of mic cables from one studio to another and the existing hole is small and difficult to expand. The balanced XLR mic cables I've used have been about 1/4 inch in diameter but I have seen XLR mics with ~1/8 inch dia cable. 1 - Is any disadvantage to the small diameter cable. 2 -...

Sound Exchange cost questions

SoundExchange rates are based on a “per performance” basis... right? And Per Performance means: .. If two people are listening to the recording via the stream that counts as two performances. .. If 1,000 people are listening to the recording via the stream that counts as 1,000 performances. So if th...

Re: XLR Mic switch or what ?

We rent these facilities out for various uses. Control Room #1 (CR-1)is rented to a broadcaster and they use it 24/7. Studio A (including the mic's) is used by CR-1's folks a couple of hours a day to record or broadcast live shows and they pay an hourly rate for that usage. Studio A is rented at oth...

Re: How to find out which coax is which to DA?

We found the problem and a repair will be completed tomorrow. I'll explain after I attempt to answer the history question... As I understand it the two cables were originally spliced because of suspected water intrusion. That was a number of years back. A little over a year ago we completely redid (...

Re: How to find out which coax is which to DA?

Thanks for all the suggestions. In response to the last post there is nothing cheaply aka "poorly" done here. The 7/8" coax cable splices were professionally done. They were also properly supported and deliberately not put back underground so is to mitigate sitting in potentially wet or saturated so...

Re: How to find out which coax is which to DA?

Good suggestion. Issue is a couple of guys are trouble shooting this and feels that we should disconnect the ground at each end of the coax in order to use the cable locator... and that ain't easy in the back of the phasor cabinet. I'm not convinced we do need to disconnect the coax shield from grou...

How to find out which coax is which to DA?

Have a discontinuity in one of two 7/8 inch coax cables between phasor cabinets and ATU's. We are temporally operating at reduced power on one tower while we try to find the problem with the coax. There is a long underground run to each tower. The cables run east south-east for a long ways before th...

Tower site grass control - will goats eat ground radials ?

Cows: Someone offered us a few cows to keep the grass down on our ground antenna ground-radial field but as I understand it we would have to fence the support anchor points to keep them from rubbing on the guy wires. Goats: What about goats? I've heard they will eat anything so the question comes up...

Re: Best external Android Cell Mic & interface for remotes

Regarding lavs... that will work in some cases but when outside the mobile studio we want a mic that can hold our mic flag... which clearly indicates that we are media. We will check out the Audio Technica long handle mike (AT8004L). Thanks for all the suggestions so far... if any one else can share...
