Re: Connector suppliers....

The cable is AVA5-50FX. According to the Commscope website, this cable is not available in the US and Canada, but it showed up at my project several years ago.

Re: Connector suppliers....

Beware of the new Andrew cable - the copper sheath is very thin and you have to be extra careful that you don't cut through it when installing grounding kits. The center conductor is also thin and filled with foam to try to make up for the fragility of the conductors. I would stay away from it.

I was told the the 51.5 ohm value came from early RCA rigid coax line that was made from standard copper water pipe sizes.

Re: Tower Painting question

I've had good luck with Rohn or Sherwin-Williams aviation orange and white. The FAA has specifications for the paint.

Re: Wanna Play "Guess What's in the Grey Box?"

A box was in the budget at least. Why not use the Endec in/out audio connections if that is what it is?

Re: Bleed over

Look for a broken or loose ground strap(s) around the combiner and tower - it acts like a bad load on the transmitters and things are getting eat up with RF. This can be verified with the transmitters off and listening to the STL receiver and processor audio outputs - if they are clean then that may...

Translators and EAS monitoring are quickly becoming mutually exclusive.

Don't bother unless your house is wired with oxygen-free Romex. And never mind the miles and miles of "ordinary" conductor between your house and the power plant.
They also offer this to get around that:

On a similar note - After NC installed the Comlabs satellite delivery system for the LP stations, the Sage boxes would not decode the tones coming from the Comlabs computer sound card (the other manufacturers' units worked as I recall). Recording the tones into Adobe Audition and blowing up the wave...

Here's some pictures of the 12' DH antenna - I've put two together and have one to go.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

I posted this image awhile back - it's a sweep of the entire range of transponders on AMC-18 that has the providers' carriers (LNB output). If your polarization is close to where it should be, then you should be able to match this up and you will be on the correct satellite.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

I have moved two 12-ft Comtechs with no issues. I use a plastic protractor with a string and weight to set the elevation from Dishpointer and then while watching the SA, swing the antenna until the correct satellite signature shows up. I helps to adjust the skew first using the old and new satellite...
