Re: BE FM 25T Wandering Readings

I had a bunch of trouble with the Arc Plus readings on the Continental 816s looking like a modulation monitor but in the last firmware and software revs there is an option to increase the sample time which settled the readings down tremendously. I think I gave them a 2 second averaging time on the t...

Re: Harris FM-25K issue

The suggestions on the low pass filter / directional coupler are very good. One other place to look is at the cable from the directional coupler to the PA. I recently had to replace all of them on the 4 25Ks that I take care of. One burned up completely and on the rest of them the cable was very bri...

Re: FCC drops main studio rule

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I have some clients that have small regional clusters of stations but since they are usually Class As or C3s, and they are more than 25 miles apart, they have to maintain studios and staff in each town even though the sales staff and the real managem...

Re: Pirates captured

The problem with the "off the shelf" directionals is that they in no way take the actual structure into account. The installer, however, can take the structure into account and play games accordingly. I have seen one that had a standoff built and oriented the antenna so that is was more or less aimi...

Re: Continental 816R-3C IPA

I have a pair of them (816-R3s) combined that had the MMD versions, one of them croaked earlier this year and Continental has basically disavowed any support for them beyond selling a new version. If the supply voltage isn't sagging below normal then chances are the amplifier itself is at fault. The...

Re: LPFM Antenna Recommendations

As far as pressurization, they can be but I usually don't bother. On the installations where there is nitrogen or a dehydrator there anyway I have used the air dielectric connectors (gas barrier and gas pass) and the pressure makes its way to the antenna through the hollow center conductor.

Re: ETRS Reporting Forms 2 & 3 09/27/2017

The business manager tried to navigate this for us and, day of test, she couldn't get in. I don't know how much trouble we are in for not meeting the 11:59 deadline but it wasn't for lack of trying. I'm pretty sure she was using IE11 but it worked fine the next day. I can only imagine how it would r...

Re: LPFM Antenna Recommendations

What frequency is it? If it is mid-band you can put up a cheap Nicom BKG77 and it will do just about as well as the ERI 100A. The design between the two isn't terribly different except that I think ERI tunes them to frequency before they ship. My translator clients split about 50/50 between the Nico...

Re: information about sas product

I installed a few of those for Shamrock Broadcasting years ago and they are really slick, even by todays standards. Wiring the connectors is tedious but once they are installed they are pretty bulletproof. Here is a link to a manual. http://www.sasaudio.com/downloads/SAS%20Documentation/32kd_manual_...

Re: Sine Remote Control

I'm not sure if this place is even still a going concern but years ago I bought a software package called "+Plus Sine" that made programming the units easy. At the time I was setting up a network of a few of dozen stations and about 100 translators and the page flipping between the programming sheet...

Has anyone received the new Nielsen monitors?

Well over a year ago I sent the paperwork back to Nielsen to receive the new PPM monitor boxes and I remember an article from Inside Radio that said they were going to start shipping them at the end of June --- 2016. Has anyone actually received them? My guess is that they proved that the PPM encodi...

Re: Hello?

I almost had to scratch my vacation. One of the MMD IPA amps in the twin 25 Continental rigs took a dump on the 29th (I was scheduled to be at my cabin at The Lake of the Ozarks June 30th to July 9th). MMD of course no longer exists and anything I do to one side of the pair I have to do to the other...

Re: translator window

Hopefully for the applicants the limitations that the window is only open to Class C and Class D stations that don't already have a translator will limit the noise. I will be choosing channels where I do have an escape if necessary. The clients that I have that will be participating are, for the mos...

Re: L-810 LED Side Markers

One of the American Tower Corporation towers that I have a couple of FMs on has been replacing the incandescent fixtures with the LED equivalents as the sockets or the lenses break. They don't last forever and I think they had to replace one of them when they came in and re-lamped the tower a couple...
