Re: More TV mergers coming soon.

Technically it makes no sense whatsoever but be careful what you wish for. The queue is already forming at the bankruptcy court for some of the major radio groups.

Re: Streaming monitoring?

I use the Linux Pulse Audio Volume Control package to direct stream audio to the system as a recording input. I think you can set up the PyAudio to threshold detect and then take it from there. There are some threshold detection settings on PyAudio that are discussed in this Raspberry Pi thread: htt...

Re: SWR/Return loss question???

Trimming coax to deal with a bad match really doesn't change the load whatsoever, what it can do is alter the relationship to the directional coupler with the standing wave reflection. What it essentially does is trick the measurement rather than changing the load. If you do add a fine matching sect...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

What that is is a really bad execution of a bad idea. The tower behind it is a 1000' Stainless G-10 and it was doomed from the start. I think some fly-by-night data service put that in and then leased a subcarrier. I think they were out of business before the first ice storm so I guess from that per...

Re: EAS over Barix

As with anything digital, the higher the bitrate the better it can be reassembled at the other end. I have only run into one instance where the header tones were degraded enough to make a difference. This particular station is a LP1 and the Wheatstone audio processor rendered the tone unreliable on ...

Re: Unplayable audio files

I have a whole server full of them but that was after the crypto-lock malware attack that the stations got hit with a few years ago.

Re: High Pitched Tone in FM Audio?

Fascinating that they developed an audible whine with the problem in the RF stage. Those IPA to PA cables have cooked on my FM25k rigs (I have 2 pair, 4 transmitters) but I never noticed an audio problem. The problem manifested itself as purely an RF problem where a transmitter would dump for no app...

Re: FCC AM Database

I am still using my old EDX DOS based versions of AMGW and AMW but, after the CDBS conversion, it got tricky. The FCC continues to publish and update the old VAX flat files but they wouldn't run on the database conversion program. The files looked the same but they wouldn't convert. I did a hex dump...

Re: Starlink LAN

I am fascinated by this as well. How did you go about getting the Ubiquiti radios to work without cross polarization? I thought the way Ubiquiti did duplex was to send and receive on the same frequency but on the other polarity (ie: TX-Horizontal, RX-Vertical). I would love to buy some cheap Ubiquit...

Re: Audiovault question

I installed some new monitors on a BE Audio Vault Express (I think - it was some sort of lightweight Audio Vault) several years ago and, after I got the proper monitor drivers to load on Windoze, it all kind if took care of itself. With the Generic PNP Monitor drivers it was all messed up.

Re: Broadcast Technology Company?

The guy to talk to at Silicon Valley (SVPA) is Sarkis Kazarian. Somehow they wound up with about every amplifier that was ever made. I had a couple of amps that Harris sold in an upgrade kit that were made by some British company and tagged with Delta RF stickers and they were able to fix them for m...

Re: How Old is Old?

Barring anything strange happening I should be able to light this back up tomorrow. After drive I need to switch one of my other stations that is co-located just under the 5 bay to the aux site and then get the line purged with nitrogen. We found a cracked elbow at the top where it makes into the an...

Re: Reviving a dormant antenna system

Obviously different owners have different ideas and budgets. I would cover myself with all of the written caveats and then buy a reattach kit for the bottom connector and pull it apart to see how much water pours out. Assuming that you don't get a bunch of water out then you could reattach the conne...

The line is the SWR K-Line that really doesn't use bullets. I lifted this from the SWR homepage that kinda shows how the system works.
