Re: Translator Question...

An alternative plan would be to find a low power transmitter (I assume the transmitter got flooded) & feed it into a long wire under an STA. Since the station is then on the air, the translator could continue to operate. Maybe, The conductivity in Tennessee is so awful that it may take a bunch of t...

Re: Translator Question...

If this is a recent grant I would say no. All of the CP's that have been granted out of the latest round of windows have carried a restriction that, nighttime operation for a daytimer notwithstanding, they may not operate absent the AM signal. If the AM signal is diminished the FM signal must be red...

Re: Digital console, remote operation

Most of the present crop of IP consoles have means to run the console from a GUI. With Wheatstone you can use the Screen Builder software to layout a full control console on a laptop and run it via VPN from a remote location. The software is fairly graphical but I don't think it takes a ton of bandw...

He was over to the station yesterday and no joy. I guess it went with the monitor to wherever it went.

Re: Delta DAM-1

I had one of those at a station I contracted for years ago. It got replaced by a Gorman Redneck somewhere along the line but they may still have the manual for it. Let me check with the current contract engineer to see.

Re: Harris FM K5 Freq Change

Q what is - the driver matched to the grid on the PA. On the 10 and 20 there is some( * "bend tuning" involved. EXPLAIN *) There is an inductor that is physically in the form of a thin strap that is shaped somewhat like a "Z" on the bottom of the PA tube socket on the 20s. It is likely about the sa...

Re: Harris FM K5 Freq Change

I can't recall if I've ever done a freq change on a 5K but I have done some 10Ks and 20Ks and their H3 variants. For sure on the 20K and I think the 10K the low pass filter had three different part numbers based on which segment of the band the operating frequency was. It was just dumb luck but on a...

Re: Wanted reliable monitor amp

Interesting...have a D-75 I'll take a second look at. As I remember, it didn't quit but got noisy. One I can't recommend is the Alesis RA-150. Have two sitting in the equipment mortuary--both lost one channel of the amp. The pots are terrible and they tend to get real noisy or have a channel just d...

Re: BE FM 25T Wandering Readings

I had a bunch of trouble with the Arc Plus readings on the Continental 816s looking like a modulation monitor but in the last firmware and software revs there is an option to increase the sample time which settled the readings down tremendously. I think I gave them a 2 second averaging time on the t...

Re: Harris FM-25K issue

The suggestions on the low pass filter / directional coupler are very good. One other place to look is at the cable from the directional coupler to the PA. I recently had to replace all of them on the 4 25Ks that I take care of. One burned up completely and on the rest of them the cable was very bri...

Re: FCC drops main studio rule

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I have some clients that have small regional clusters of stations but since they are usually Class As or C3s, and they are more than 25 miles apart, they have to maintain studios and staff in each town even though the sales staff and the real managem...

Re: Pirates captured

The problem with the "off the shelf" directionals is that they in no way take the actual structure into account. The installer, however, can take the structure into account and play games accordingly. I have seen one that had a standoff built and oriented the antenna so that is was more or less aimi...

Re: Continental 816R-3C IPA

I have a pair of them (816-R3s) combined that had the MMD versions, one of them croaked earlier this year and Continental has basically disavowed any support for them beyond selling a new version. If the supply voltage isn't sagging below normal then chances are the amplifier itself is at fault. The...

Re: LPFM Antenna Recommendations

As far as pressurization, they can be but I usually don't bother. On the installations where there is nitrogen or a dehydrator there anyway I have used the air dielectric connectors (gas barrier and gas pass) and the pressure makes its way to the antenna through the hollow center conductor.

The business manager tried to navigate this for us and, day of test, she couldn't get in. I don't know how much trouble we are in for not meeting the 11:59 deadline but it wasn't for lack of trying. I'm pretty sure she was using IE11 but it worked fine the next day. I can only imagine how it would r...
