Re: information about sas product

I installed a few of those for Shamrock Broadcasting years ago and they are really slick, even by todays standards. Wiring the connectors is tedious but once they are installed they are pretty bulletproof. Here is a link to a manual. http://www.sasaudio.com/downloads/SAS%20Documentation/32kd_manual_...

Re: Sine Remote Control

I'm not sure if this place is even still a going concern but years ago I bought a software package called "+Plus Sine" that made programming the units easy. At the time I was setting up a network of a few of dozen stations and about 100 translators and the page flipping between the programming sheet...

I got a voice mail last evening from a guy near State College, Pennsylvania that was listening to KMXV in Kansas City like it was a local.

Has anyone received the new Nielsen monitors?

Well over a year ago I sent the paperwork back to Nielsen to receive the new PPM monitor boxes and I remember an article from Inside Radio that said they were going to start shipping them at the end of June --- 2016. Has anyone actually received them? My guess is that they proved that the PPM encodi...

Re: Hello?

I almost had to scratch my vacation. One of the MMD IPA amps in the twin 25 Continental rigs took a dump on the 29th (I was scheduled to be at my cabin at The Lake of the Ozarks June 30th to July 9th). MMD of course no longer exists and anything I do to one side of the pair I have to do to the other...

Re: translator window

Hopefully for the applicants the limitations that the window is only open to Class C and Class D stations that don't already have a translator will limit the noise. I will be choosing channels where I do have an escape if necessary. The clients that I have that will be participating are, for the mos...

Re: L-810 LED Side Markers

One of the American Tower Corporation towers that I have a couple of FMs on has been replacing the incandescent fixtures with the LED equivalents as the sockets or the lenses break. They don't last forever and I think they had to replace one of them when they came in and re-lamped the tower a couple...

Re: Daytime Impedance high?

Sounds like you need to get an actual OIB or some other bridge on the ATU output and see what the impedance really is. With a 433 Ohm tower you aren't going to get anything accurate with a common point bridge since it is designed to monitor something at or near 50 Ohms. If the ND tower impedance is ...

Re: Vertical or Circular polarization FM Broadcast

It will work either way but the rabbit ears analogy falls apart a bit in that the listener, the end user, rarely has any control over the orientation of the antenna at any given time. The nice thing about C-pol is that it is effectively in all planes all the time, not just H and not just V. It gives...

Re: New Sound Board

It all comes down to features and quality. You can get decent audio through a $200.00 Mackie but things like remote starts and on-air lighting circuits take a more broadcast oriented console to make those connections easy and reliable. For multiple studios the AOIP (Audio Over IP) digital consoles m...

Re: More TV mergers coming soon.

Technically it makes no sense whatsoever but be careful what you wish for. The queue is already forming at the bankruptcy court for some of the major radio groups.

Re: Streaming monitoring?

I use the Linux Pulse Audio Volume Control package to direct stream audio to the system as a recording input. I think you can set up the PyAudio to threshold detect and then take it from there. There are some threshold detection settings on PyAudio that are discussed in this Raspberry Pi thread: htt...

Re: SWR/Return loss question???

Trimming coax to deal with a bad match really doesn't change the load whatsoever, what it can do is alter the relationship to the directional coupler with the standing wave reflection. What it essentially does is trick the measurement rather than changing the load. If you do add a fine matching sect...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

What that is is a really bad execution of a bad idea. The tower behind it is a 1000' Stainless G-10 and it was doomed from the start. I think some fly-by-night data service put that in and then leased a subcarrier. I think they were out of business before the first ice storm so I guess from that per...

Re: EAS over Barix

As with anything digital, the higher the bitrate the better it can be reassembled at the other end. I have only run into one instance where the header tones were degraded enough to make a difference. This particular station is a LP1 and the Wheatstone audio processor rendered the tone unreliable on ...
