Re: Pirates captured

UPDATE TO MY XLATOR INTERFERENCE SAGA POSTED EARLIER... Yesterday I finally got a nice day with nothing much better to do other than chase around middle TN looking at FM signal strengths and antennas... I used a 1/4 wave FM vert mag mount and a Pira P275 for relative measurements. Imagine my surpris...

Re: IPAWS outage?

Server crashed. It is unfathomable that a single server could: A. Crash and take the national alert system down with it; and B: Crash and stay down for 11hrs with no one knowing it. www.theBDR.net/articles/fcc/eas/eas.html I surmised that it was a Win10 Home computer and it installed forced updates ...

Re: Women Hearing Distorsion on Station After STL realign

That you're hearing complaints from women first isn't a surprise. Research about that goes back, at least, to the Schulke SRP Beautiful Music days and, to some extent, drove the technical requirements the company imposed on its subscriber stations. Most women are very sensitive to (and intolerant o...

Re: Women Hearing Distorsion on Station After STL realign

What do you hear? As was noted in the other thread, 26dBuV is very low. I would not be surprised if the signal is noisy... What does it sound like with nothing playing? I'm not sure what is considered to be minimum full quieting signal level but I have 3 or 4 of these on paths from 4 miles to about ...

Re: Aligned our STL this morning. Opinions?

Looks like it's less than a 20 inch hop! Now that's funny right there... I had to jump back to the picture in the previous post a couple times before I realized the picture above is a split-screen of both ends of the system. :) I was snickering initially at what appeared to be a RSL and TSL90...

Re: GR EAS-1/CAP-DEC-1 issues

Also make sure you sign up for the IPAWS Email Digest. They will send a notification when a test is missed or an error has occurred on their end. It's very handy. Where do you sign up? My google-foo isn't working on finding a signup page. I am signed up on the sbe-eas reflector but the failure wasn...

Re: GR EAS-1/CAP-DEC-1 issues

I don't have an IPAWS down/up notification either. The Sage web interface can tell you if IPAWS is visible. IPAWS is (and apparently was) up and there isn't the usual down/up log entry but also no entry of test received at 2pm. There are numerous other IPAWS tests received over the past few weeks s...

Re: GR EAS-1/CAP-DEC-1 issues

My units that received it got it at about 2c. The GR hasn't sent a notification and the 2 Sages missed it. Nothing in their logs for yesterday's test. It could have been an internet issue as both are in the same town although I don't have an IPAWS down/up notification either.

Re: FAA requirements for Decommissioned towers

Although I didn't recall it being in Boston, I think that this was the site that I had heard about that was busted for _not_ having a non-existent tower lit according to it's non-existent license. Or something... On top of what Kevin said above, You need to file a NOTAM when you demolish the tower t...

Re: GR EAS-1/CAP-DEC-1 issues

I have one client with a GR EAS and CAP adapter and it seems to be ignoring the internet transported tests as well. It was recently updated and repaired by another area engineer and after finding it not working again I followed up with a call to Jim to confirm programming. He had me change several i...

Re: FAA requirements for Decommissioned towers

Del, It has been a long time since I have been involved in decommissioning a lighted tower but I believe that you file a Notice of Alteration and specify that the tower will be deconstructed starting on a certain date and be completely down by xx/xx/xxxx. A call to the FAA specialist for the state i...

Re: FM range question - coastal mountainous terrain

But there are several accessible ridges above and about 4 miles away from central PdI that probably do have power for a higher power tx. There are even more where a lower power solar power transmitter with a yagi pointed down into the target area would provide a much better signal than a kw trying t...

Re: FM range question - coastal mountainous terrain

I just did a quick Google Earth path. It looks like there is a lot of dirt that is at least 200ft above line of sight between those coords and Playa del Ingles. I think that was the desired area.
