Re: New member - LPFM transmitter recommendations

I think in the situation originally described that the search should be limited to either a Nautel VS 300 or a Crown E series. The reason is that the both have phone home factory support. In an operation with limited technical capabilities having the factory constantly monitoring the transmitter and...

Re: V & H antenna radiated power

A few points. First, ERP is generally calculated in the horizontal plane but the FCC lists horizontal and vertical separately. Vertical ERP can not exceed horizontal. Remember if you put a splitter in the transmission line you will require twice the TPO for the same ERP. You will not really have cir...

Re: New member - LPFM transmitter recommendations

My issue with BW is their analog design. Sooner rather than later you will need a real engineer to put it back together.

Gatesair and BE may or may not be around for long. If support is an issue, be wary.

As I said earlier, Nautel or Ecreso (Crown E). Let your spreadsheet decide.

Re: New member - LPFM transmitter recommendations

I would also chime in for Nautel. However, the Crown transmitters are made by Ecreso if they are an 'E' series. Ecreso is quite reputable and close to Nautel in quality and technology. Both are fully digital so you don't have to worry about analog circuits drifting and ultimately failing. Both can b...

Re: Vertical or Circular polarization FM Broadcast

I should clarify. I wasnt making a case regarding CPole. I was making a case AGAINST vertical polarization. The choice should really be between Hpole and CPole although there is something to be said about slant as well.

Re: Vertical or Circular polarization FM Broadcast

All good except we really weren't discussing CPole. That is a whole different discussion. CPole is not always the magic bullet some think, though. For LPFM I think it is a waste but that said, I have built CP LPFM because 300 Watts is about the lowest power decent approved TX available and the extra...

Re: Backup STL link

I would go Ubiquity at 2.4 or 5.8 GHz.

Re: Vertical or Circular polarization FM Broadcast

Actual field studies show horizontal polarization is the best option. If you want to burn up the extra power, then go CP. I could write volumes on this but to keep it short I'll just share this story. I had the opportunity to put the first 2 legal private stations on the Eiffle tower in the late 198...

Re: 6 KW Transmitter Ballpark price

Regarding GatesAir. I,too, am not sure how much longer they will be around. The TV repack might be their last gasp. They are already shedding divisions.

Re: Look what took my 50kw off the air

That's the downside of the fast VSWR protection commonly found in transmitters designed in the last 50 years. There is the story about a legacy class A station where in the middle an important ball same vandels put a car battery jumper cable across the ball gap. The MW50 immediately shut down and wo...

Hopefully it will be a very long time as in about half the existing stations being dark.

I've used the FM version of the Omnia 7. It is a great box. It is probably the best bang for the buck.

Re: BW Broadcast transmitter

Kevin

The thing with Nautel is the additional features if you need them. Buying a cheaper TX and then adding other boxes for the missing features is just false economy. My experience with BW is that they are not totally honest and talk down to the customers as though they assume we are all morons.
