Re: Blue tooth mixer and high school games

Well Verizon is headed in a different direction. They did not bid on any 600 MHz spectrum. They are focusing on smaller and smaller cells to offer more speed. Problem there is no ROI on these cells out in the country. Supposedly TMobile is doing the opposite and are taking advantage of 600 MHz range...

Re: Blue tooth mixer and high school games

For what its worth, keep an eye on Tmobile. They are agressively rolling out their newly acquired 600 MHz spectrum. While this doesn’t solve the current problems, they are focusing on more rural areas since the repack hasn’t happened. Once they light up service, a new phone will be required since no...

Re: 2 stations fighting to get on the frequency

Agreed I had a station in NYC that was short spaced to one in Philly. Every August when the ducting set up Philly would cover over almost all our coverage area. You could see our antenna on Empire and hear Philly. Of course, we were clobbering them. MAD :-) I had a solution - swap frequencies in Phi...

Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

Going back a re-reading my last response to the post preceeding it, I now see that poster must have misunderstood the entire point of this discussion. The original question revolved around receiving a station in Newport News VA which was apparently possible when the closer co-channel station in VA w...

Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

2 things: 1. I think it is wrong to name specific names of parties where one has no direct involvement. It is potentially damaging to one’s self interests down the road. I know the parties involved with 4TS, one who I initially hired into the industry was running the translator off the roof of his c...

Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

OTA in general doesn’t fly today and hasn’t for at least the past 35 years and it never was anything like 5 nines more like 2 sevens. But actually that OTA I cited would fly today, at least legally, since the system was beyond the reach of retransmission consent except that stuff was long ago replac...

Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

I see that now BUT there is a translator CP for Baltimore. Before that goes on he would need something like this: http://wadeantenna.com/product/channel-6-fm-diamond-quad-log-periodic-array/ Besides costing a few K, it requires a relatively large commercial tower costing more Ks. Then zoning for all...

To expand: § 74.1203 Interference. (a) An authorized FM translator or booster station will not be permitted to continue to operate if it causes any actual interference to: (1) The transmission of any author- ized broadcast station; or (2) The reception of the input signal of any TV translator, TV bo...

Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

In fact, for the moment, he does. This exact thing happened in NYC for a new translator which was walked, at great expense, to 4 Times square to ‘translate’ an HD2. A station far out of market surreptitously encouraged fringe listeners to complain to the FCC. A station has no standing. Even in the c...

Re: What is this? A 5 kw Dummy Load or what?

I agree with those who say it’s a dummy. It very much looks homebrew and not that well done. I have worked with better home made loads. As was already stated, there are some kind of industrial resistive devices and a matching network. Usually not that much of a matching network is required so that m...

Re: Singling out 2 stations on same frequency

An antenna solution could be extremely complicated and expense, possibly impossible. Easier solutions is to complain directly to the FCC. Say you used to listen to WXXX and now this other station is knocking it out. Do it quickly before that rule is changed. Another solution - stream. I rarely liste...

Re: RF Spectrum Analyzer

A comple of points. First, Jeff is Canadian, lives in Canada and knows the broadcast industry there well. However, if you still want to take a crack at this, rent a proper analyzer, don’t try to cheap out. Many rental companies will let you buy for pennies on the dollar, depending on rental length a...

Re: Low Power AM ATU question....

I agree with most of the above but I would approach it this way. First model the antenna, EZNEC should be adequate and then when you are there, measure it with the actual ground and other enviromental elements. You can then design a network and see if the MFJ has enough range although I seriously do...

If you use fiber, most potential RFI issues go away. Fiber is pretty cheap these days.

Re: New member - LPFM transmitter recommendations

I think in the situation originally described that the search should be limited to either a Nautel VS 300 or a Crown E series. The reason is that the both have phone home factory support. In an operation with limited technical capabilities having the factory constantly monitoring the transmitter and...
