Re: OMNIA.7AM

I assume some of the "non-studio" audio is incoming telephone calls. Get an $110 ART equalizer & hang it on the output of your hybrid. Makes a world of difference.

Re: 6 KW Transmitter Ballpark price

Contact Nautel. They can be competitive --compared to Harris/BE, not to some of the Italian makers.

Re: 6 KW Transmitter Ballpark price

Haven't had experience with DB. Nautel will give you a 4 year warranty (last I saw) & their service is pretty good. Canadian company, but they have a shop in Bangor. I have two of them--a 10 NVlt & a VS2.5--on air, and will be putting a VS-300 back on for a translator shortly.

Re: EAS Antenna Issue

Still, reality must intrude. My primary monitoring assignment is a Class IV 25 miles away....because the state plan has never been changed to reflect the real world. I just monitor the FM relay, a Class B. Another non-com station isn't even in the state plan (it's 900 watts, been on the air since 20...

Re: EAS Antenna Issue

The Michigan EAS plan is under lock and key (password required--complete idiocy). I would call them or e-mail them and ask them to get you in touch with their state committee. Then ask for another monitoring assignment. First...yes you can complain about the translator, but why start a fight? Second...

Re: Mounting stuff to old concrete block wall?

Twist-lock socket on a little 600 watt RF amplifier. Couldn't find the same brand plug--but I knew the current rating required. Picked different brand up--wouldn't fit--just slightly different. Ended up changing the socket.

Re: You need this

A floating, or always on UPS (which is probably what that "ac regenerator" is) does have its uses. Not at that price, though! Had a problem with sporadic pulses coming in the power line at one studio. Actually showed up in the FM band--listening on a car radio under the power lines...but not on AM (...

Re: EAS Tones - Specification Source ?

47 cfr Sections 11.31 through 11.35.

Go to ecfr.gov select Title 47 then select parts 0-19 then chapter 11 and you can find these sections.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

We have a pair of stations run off STORQ systems (which update from either satellite or internet), as well as several conventional satellite receivers for various programs (Delilah, Alice Cooper). About 6 months ago the old LNB started to fail, was bugging our DAWNCO splitter/DA so we put in an old ...

Re: No sound onair after fading in Outside Broadcast feed

Yes--sounds like a phase reversal. Understand in stereo broadcasting the audio fed into the transmitter consists of a mono main channel signal ( the Left and Right channel added in phase) and a Left and inverted Right (-R) signal fed into the stereo subcarrier. So... Let's assume the remote broadcas...

LTE cell sites

Recently had to spend a day baby-sitting an A.T. & T crew and contractor at a combined FM/cell site. 220 ft. guyed tower, with 4 bay FM non-com & several cell services at the top of the tower. Carriers in the 700~1900~2100~2300 bands plus other equipment operating in 800 mhz. Seems the FM signal was...

Re: EAS Issue

The PPM encoder runs a series of tones--somewhere in between 2~4 khz--which are embedded in dense audio (which explains why news/talk and smooth jazz stations don't do well in PPM markets). Speculating--it may be the masking algorithm which allows the hiding of the tones in dense music is mangling t...

Re: EAS Issue

With two stations and one EAS box, we use the Broadcast Tools switchers for EAS alerts. The Sage, (in this case) sends out a closure that switches a pair of 2X1 BT switchers from the program lines to the audio output of the Sage. The EOM switches the program lines back on. Only problem I've had is w...

Re: RBDS Phase

Why? The RDS subcarrier is at 57 khz (3X19)--but why should the relative phase of the pilot and RDS matter?

Have two Nautels with internally generated RDS, both fed from external composite sources (Omnia 3T locally for one, Omnia One through a 25 mile STL path for the other. Never saw a problem.
