Re: More TV mergers coming soon.

Radio controls their means of distribution. Hop in your car and turn the radio on... TV is increasingly dependent on other carriers--cable and satellite. I haven't watched OTA TV for years..increasingly my prime-time TV watching includes programs straight from network servers via a download channel ...

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

We bought one (used) like that to receive our state network on Galaxy at 99 degrees. Took the dish apart, assembled it on the new post aimed in the right direction, got "Derf" from the two way shop with his spectrum analyzer, & set it up. When we re-assembled the dish we left that actuator arm off. ...

Re: Looking for MusicGen installer

We use Natural Music which is a buy-out. Also in use at a college station and a high school station we help out. Like any such program, the real work is in deciding on categories, installing the database, and setting up a clock. Once this is done, the actual log generation is fairly simple, and data...

What happens to the low power TV's? Two in my market--ch. 22 and 47.

Re: RBDS Phase

Or an external pilot sample, such as are available from many modern processors. We feed our little Pira RDS geni from that sample off an Omnia One. Then there are the Nautel transmitters, with an internal RDS generator--referenced to the internal stereo generator, I presume. On our NV10lt and VS2.5,...

Re: RBDS Phase

Never saw anywhere where this was supposed to be a problem. Some RDS geni's generate their own sub-carrier, without reference to the pilot.

Re: ERI .78 spacing

May be a useful exercise to first run the numbers comparing TPO vs. antenna gain to get your ERP. Let's assume you have a 300' run of 1 5/8th air to the antenna now--6 kw ERP on the Shively takes about 3300 watts TPO If you went with an off-the-shelf 1/2 wave spaced 4 bay ERI, you would need about 5...

Re: ERI .78 spacing

Have two stations in our area with 1/2 wave spaced antennas--two class A's mounted below the antenna for a Class B. Space considerations on the relatively short tower & RF levels at ground level were the main considerations in using the half wave spaced antennas. Not particularly impressed by the re...

Re: SWR/Return loss question???

Sometimes a short jumper like you described may actually be the cause of the reflected power. Changing the length--e.g., changing the wavelength of that short piece of transmission line may improve the overall match of the system.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

If you have a receiver that is not currently in use (e.g., for baseball coverage) you may want to carefully check it out before you need it. Even if you've already made the switch & the receiver looks happy. Our new dish is still sitting in the garage, but a couple of weeks ago we noticed that the b...

I have NWS stations I monitor that are in the noise some times...yet the header tones decode just fine. Would not be an issue I would worry about.

Re: Offical AMC 8 Transition Thread (was Sat. AMC-8)

Supposedly the major networks have downloaded (internet? Sat feed? both?) the settings for the new bird. Now would be the time to make sure any idle receivers that may be needed later (e.g.--for a sports feed) are powered up and hooked up to the internet and the present AMC-8 satellite feed so they ...

E-bay. Good quality shielded audio wire still useful--someone will buy it. I'm still analog...just ran a 27 shielded pair cable from my rack room to the main studio at one location & two other similar cables at our other station. Moving stuff out of the control room to the racks, running out of pair...
