Re: Revitalized AM Translators

In answer to W9WI's post--the C.P. I was looking at with this condition was issued last Friday.

Re: Revitalized AM Translators

Ah, hill country thinking.... I am used to our poor conductivity. Though the wording is confusing and subject to two different interpretations. Section 1201(g) would allow an FM translator for an AM to be built 50 miles away from the AM transmitter site...IF this translator site was within the 2 mv/...

Re: Revitalized AM Translators

Something does not jibe here. Look at 47 CFR 1201 (g). A translator may be licensed anywhere within the greater of either the daytime 2 mv/m contour or a 25 mile radius of the AM transmitter site--providing that the translator's 60 dbu doesn't extend beyond either the contour or 25 mile circle. So, ...

Off-topic, but look for a lot of wireless mike systems to suddenly "die."

Re: What is this? A 5 kw Dummy Load or what?

Some of the early hard line designs were 51.5 ohms. I can remember pulling up what looked like copper water pipe --with little ceramic insulators holding the center conductor--that was part of the late 30's installation at WSPD Toledo.

Re: Blue tooth mixer and high school games

We've run into sites with no wires to the football press box...you can try an IP connection over cell, but good luck on that. So we fall back to cell. We've run into sites with just one cell provider in the area--so we have the "home phone" boxes for both GSM AT&T and CDMA Verizon. We've run into sc...

Re: Silent spot

The worst ones were those with black in the first few seconds of the spot....but that's back in the day when I actually did the switching & everything was either video tape or film chain.

Re: Blue tooth mixer and high school games

If I understand what they want to do--the Bluetooth would be used to connect their mixer to a cellphone. Google "Verizon home phone." This is a cell phone with an RJ11 (modular jack). All you need then is a regular telephone or telephone-like device to communicate...J K audio has a variety at all pr...

Re: Wanted reliable monitor amp

Interesting...have a D-75 I'll take a second look at. As I remember, it didn't quit but got noisy.

One I can't recommend is the Alesis RA-150. Have two sitting in the equipment mortuary--both lost one channel of the amp.

Re: Wanted reliable monitor amp

Comes down to $$$.

I've been buying the Chinese made Crowns recently. The "300 watt" is only $230 on Amazon. So far they seem to be working OK.

Can't duplicate more than 25% of the programming where there is a 50% or greater overlap of the 70 dbu contours.

Re: Broadcast Electronics Console Model 5S150 Issues

With no meter switch--console designed that way. If you need a way to monitor audition levels then the best solution is a couple of outboard VU meters in a minibox. Look at the "Precision Stereo VU Meter Kit " from Jameco for $45.

Re: Broadcast Electronics Console Model 5S150 Issues

According to the manual, there is a program-audition switch for the VU meters. Should be on the front panel somewhere. If not, they may have left it off the smaller versions of this console. If the switches are there, but the meters stay in program, maybe someone bypassed the switches.

Re: RF Spectrum Analyzer

Apparently some pilot thought he heard your station in their aircraft radio, and complained. Regulatory folks want measurements showing your station meets Canadian emission limits. You are dealing with bureaucrats. They deal with their pals--or at least their acquaintances. You are not in that crowd...
