DX-10 Controller Probs

Hi All... I've got an old DX-10 transmitter from the later 1980's that has been sitting around collecting dust and rodent excrement. The unit has been cleaned up and was working for a while. However, now it isn't....The unit has a 2 step-start but at the moment it's only doing a 1 step. It tries to ...

Re: Antennas for Field Measurement

Frank, AM signal Measurements are done with a Field Strength Meter designed for that type of measurement. Potomac Instruments makes that type of meter, and it is considered the standard test equipment for that use. AM signal measurements are rarely made from a car with an antenna stuck on it.... The...

Re: MW10B-A little help?

I've worked on MW-5 in the past and ran across similar symptoms when a some resistors in the DC supply opened up. IIRC these were power resistors that were located near the front of the rig and were inside on the swing open door. It's been many years since, so I may be imagining things  Good L...

Re: FCC AM Database

Hi Deep Thought, I'm no IT wizard...but I do know a few things. One thing I can't figure out is... how does each of the data files determine what row of data it links to in another file ? For example : The am_ant_sys file contains about about 82,000 records of data but there are no Call Letters in t...

FCC AM Database

Has anyone created an "offline" database from the FCC CDBS records ? I'm looking for a way to create my own. My objective is to be able to search for AM stations within the 3Km distance from a specific bearing. The FCC database has been off line every now and then and it's caused me a bit of a probl...

Re: Combining two AMs at one site

What you want to do is called "Diplexing" and it's done regularly. The first thing to consider is the frequencies of the two stations involved. If they are closer than 100 Khz apart in frequency, there could be problems keep one stations signal out of the others transmitter. But if you have enough s...

Re: FREQ CHANGE BE AM-1A IN THE FIELD

Deep Thought is correct when he states that the Class E RF stage requires factory tuning. Class E doesn't tune like an old tube or other solid state stage. You can destroy the RF FET's real quickly when the RF stage isn't properly tuned. Send it to the factory and be done with it....

Re: OK here's one for ya...

Glad to see someone is taking care of WCGO... The 3 phase in that local does get goofy every once and a while. But usually all you need to do is power down the Nautel for 3 minutes and she comes right back up... There is a Power Clamp surge protector out there ...maybe it's time to replace it ?

Translator Filings

Is there a simple and easy way to get a list of the FM Translator filings ? Is there a separate FCC database for these ?

Any thoughts ?

Re: Power limits

The difference between 5.4Kw and 5.9Kw isn't discernible to the average person, especially with the existing noise levels. I'd play it safe and operate at 5.4Kw and not worry that an FCC inspection would result in the station being fined and lose more money than it would ever gain. Those who try to ...

Re: 950 MHz STL Dish on AM Tower

I notice that you said "one" of the hot AM towers which suggests that this is a DA. You will almost certainly be better off replacing the wooden pole than trying to use an iso-coupler or iso-coil to isolate the STL line. Adding anything across the base insulator or a DA will not only affect (possib...
