I get away with just a workstation, since all I am doing is producing a weekly music program and doing occasional promos and PSAs.

Re: Audio Bandwidth of an AM Broadcast Station

Never mind that with a FM translator, station owners have no motivating reason to care about their AM audio quality. I have one client who has applied for a translator to complement their flea-power night signal. It will cover relatively little of their 5 kW day signal so they are very keen on keep...

Does it look like this?

If so the manual is on the BT site. I always automated control of them from automation systems.

Re: Where to find used equipment?

My go-to for used equipment is Steve Scarborough at Bay Country Broadcast in Baltimore. I have been dealing with Steve for most of 20 years. I recently bought a Symetrix 528E from him that shows no sign of use and has definitely never been mounted in a rack. There are also a couple of broadcast equi...

Re: USB Keyboards/Mice for Studio

DO NOT use more than one wireless keyboard/mouse in the same studio! For years I have run multiple Logitech devices with their Unifying software in the house without conflict (I sometimes have as many as four computers running at once). I think the key is to set them up one at a time with only one ...

Re: Harris FM K5 Freq Change

The PA tuning is fairly straightforward but the usual problem are is getting the driver matched to the grid on the PA. On the 10 and 20 there is some "bend tuning" involved. I was involved in the field retuning of a 20H3, which, IIRC, used the same cavity as the 20K. We had a Harris field tech come...

I was told the the 51.5 ohm value came from early RCA rigid coax line that was made from standard copper water pipe sizes.
That is correct, and all of my oldest broadcast catalogs show 51.5 Ohms as the standard antenna, line and termination value.

The "resistive" strip appears to have come from an older Gates BC-1T or similar vintage vacuum tube transmitter.
I agree - I have a BC-1T load here and it appears identical. Bear in mind that a BC-1T load is not a 50 ohm load - it is a 51.5 ohm load.

Getting Through Windows Firewall

I have a customer with a secondary transmitter site out of listening range, and I want to set up a private WME stream so staff can dial in and hear how the off-air audio sounds. My problem is configuring Windows Firewall (under Win7) to allow inbound access to the pull the stream. I've never worked ...

I concur with Bob. At the moment I have one third in line in the shop queue for a customer.

I found a spare crystal for 1440khz so I think it is in the upper end of the band.
Only the divider and crystal freq change - the rest of the exciter is broadband 540 kHz to 6+ MHz.

That’s it except this one had a 60V supply. Still enough to give one a good zap if not careful.
I don't recall which supply was in the McMartin console (I think a B-803) that I last worked on in 1987. I do remember it could give you a poke. I was never too thrilled with that console.

Re: Broadcast Electronics Console Model 5S150 Issues

re: that BE console, the 150 series IIRC didn't have the program/audition selector for the VU meters but the 250 did. The 250 also had step attenuators. Both used the same plug in cards of which there were at least two versions. Still quite a few of those in service. I haven't worked on a 150 serie...

Re: Merry Christmas

A merry Christmas to all from southwestern VA. A couple of weeks ago we got some snow and I photographed the house for this year's Christmas card. It wasn't enough to count as snow for my cousin, who lives in Juneau, but I figured it was the closest to a white Christmas that I would get this year. h...
