Re: Low Power AM ATU question....

If he's running a 7m antenna it is not a Part 15 antenna, as that is limited to 3m with ground lead. He is in the UK, anyway, so not bound by Part 15. I will second the suggestion of Bill DeFelice to use something like an LPB ATU-30, which is designed to handle a 30 Watt transmitter and can provide ...

Re: adjustable Studio desk

But in today's AOIP/IP world, a couple of Cat5 cables properly routed (physically) would probably survive very well... Multiple runs of Gepco 16pair maybe not so much. Keep in mind that I work outside the top 100 markets. In my market a couple of clusters have digital consoles, but most of the mark...

Re: adjustable Studio desk

In nearly 50 years in this business I have never seen an adjustable height desk in a studio. Consoles (and sometimes other equipment) are often cabled to punch blocks, and the mult cable used is designed for fixed installation, not for repeated flexing.

Re: Women Hearing Distorsion on Station After STL realign

I haven't checked my hearing in many years, but up until a few years before my last analog TV with a CRT died I could still hear the flyback ringing. For you young folks, a CRT is an antiquated display technology that, if used in an iPhone, would result in a phone you would have to carry in a wheelb...

Re: Women Hearing Distorsion on Station After STL realign

She can hear the system 'ringing' ... At one station where I worked the ceiling lights in the reception area were flood bulbs in ceiling cans. Sometimes when a bulb was dying the filament would vibrate causing a high-pitched ringing sound. Most of the women on the staff worked in the offices, and c...

Could the loss of hearing in men be the result of constant nagging, or is it "selective hearing loss", which is what I have?

It's just that men turn into old farts faster than women do.

Re: Women Hearing Distorsion on Station After STL realign

That you're hearing complaints from women first isn't a surprise. Research about that goes back, at least, to the Schulke SRP Beautiful Music days ... Some research goes back much farther than that. Women can hear the higher frequency distortion products better than men because women of all ages ha...

Re: Harris FM-25K issue

...It is about four racks away connected by a RG-8U jumper. It would be wise to make two measurements with the Bird - one at the PA input and one at the IPA output. That should reveal if the jumper is at fault. I will disassemble the IPA reflectometer and have a look at it. You should hold off on t...

Re: Harris FM-25K issue

To follow up on Steve's response, you should insert a Bird Thruline wattmeter between the IPA and the PA. If the Bird shows VSWR higher than, say, 1.1:1 you have a problem in the PA causing a PA input impedance of other than 50+j0. If the Bird VSWR is very low the intermittent fault could be in the ...

Not for my contract customers. I do not serve as DCO, and do not allow the R/C to call me, for any stations where I am not employed full time.

I just got the first drone view of the antenna of a station that I am involved with. It is an LPFM still under construction that I am advising, and donating some labor to, as they are a 501(c)(3).

Re: More Bad Sports Audio on Fox

Life was so much easier fifty years ago, with one video standard and one audio channel! It was still pretty easy when I was in television in the late '90s. Our station had not yet converted to ATSC so it was one video standard and two audio channels. In any case most people are listening in stereo ...

More Bad Sports Audio on Fox

What is it with sports audio ops? Yesterday's ALCS game on FS1 sounded fine. Today's game on Fox broadcast, I would think with the same crew in the truck, sounded terrible. The crowd noise was so high I often could not understand the announcers. It sounded like the crowd was compressed as well.
