Re: OMB PTX-20 test and repair help required

Ah--Gran Canaria. I see the problem! A losing battle with geography. (Think Oahu--the islands are about the same size.)
600 square mile island with a 6,000 foot mountain in the middle.

Other factors: Type of antenna, actual radiated power (as opposed to the amount being fed into the coaxial cable), and, as mentioned--height of the antenna. In FM height is (almost) everything.

Re: Help making an On-Air & Mic Light controller

First question is what is going to control the controller? Mixing console? Or are you using a mixer (like a PA mixer) that doesn't provide tally outputs? For a simple circuit I would use a 4 pole relay like this: Uxcell 4PDT Electromagnetic Power Relay with Socket Base, DC12V Coil (search Amazon for...

Re: OMB PTX-20 test and repair help required

Poor thing looks like it got very wet. OK. Understand that this is a 50 watt transmitter--the term "exciter" conveys that it is normally used to drive or "excite" a larger power amplifier, but the unit produces a complete FM signal at its rated power. So the first thing you need is a dummy load, or ...

Re: Harris FM-25K issue

What is happening with the BW low power transmitter when an IPA fault occurs? I have a BE 1 kw I use as a back-up transmitter, uses a 1/4 watt exciter card to drive the rest of the box. For no apparent reason this exciter will loose lock momentarily, then come back up, (a replacement card does the s...

Re: STORQ Users--Downgrade coming

They say they will three different configurations coming out. The simple one is based on the I-pump receiver, with music on the internal hard drive and program blocks loaded periodically. Interface through a web browser, but it allows one to see the upcoming log & make changes--deleting elements, ad...

Re: STORQ Users--Downgrade coming

Due to get the full sales push this afternoon at 4, so we will see. About to go back to wiring a new studio--sitting on the floor, may need a crane to get back up on my feet. At 68 the legs complain after a few hours. But I digress. Look at the back of the IPump 8640 here: wegener.com/datasheets/DS_...

Re: STORQ Users--Downgrade coming

Our understanding is that they have hardly any STORQ boxes left, and a number of ones out in the field are XP machines. We have two with Windows 7, one has problems, last we heard they were sending us the needed parts to fix it. Word is they do not have anyone with deep understanding of the inherite...

STORQ Users--Downgrade coming

Information we've just received is that the current STORQ units will be replaced with a Wegener I-Pump (not the current 1RU model but a new 2RU model) which will be hybrid satellite and HTTP connected. The unit will control up to 8 formats using an internal 160 GB hard drive. Music compressed using ...

Re: Program Test Authority

You should have a copy of your construction permit, this will show any special conditions you may need to meet before you can operate. For a low power, this would most likely be some kind of share time provision with another low power. If there are no special conditions, you can begin operations, bu...

Re: FCC drops main studio rule

Well, everyone needs to upload their public file to the FCC "cloud" by March, so there is not much interest of the inspectors in anything else. Most current EAS decoders keep a log--so that is easily retrieved. Tower lights aren't usually an issue unless they are out--then you would have the on-line...

Re: Sonifex Micro HS X hdr cartridge machine

Basic "Cart Machine 101." A cart machine uses a two track head (three track if stereo). One track for audio, one for cueing. When a cart is recorded, a short 1,000 hz. tone burst is recorded on the cue track when the recording is started....when the continuous loop tape cartridge comes back around t...

Re: Over-powered translator

Maybe... Recently added a Class A tenant to one of my sites, electric bill only went up about $100. They are running a VS-1 at around 800 watts for 750 radiated. They were supposed to install their own power feed, but that's been delayed since the electric company has so many crews doing emergency w...

Re: BSI Simian Remote & Voice Tracking

Simian uses the software that comes with the recommended Audio Science sound cards to do segue. I suspect with simpler sound cards you will not be able to talk up to the post with your voice tracks, but will have to be content with a simple sequential operation.

Has almost a year turnaround by Silicon Valley Amplifier on a repair of a similar type of IPA amp for a Harris HT transmitter. Unless you have a spare, may be more cost-effective just to upgrade the IPA.
