Need fancy equipment to DX?

Post by NECRAT » Tue Sep 22, 2009 8:21 pm

Nah!!
While the fancy, exspensive equipment sure makes DXing easier in some cases, here are two audio captures I have of my picking up two
radio stations, both in Richmond, VA., in the guest room at my parent's house. All I am using a Radio Shack DX398 shortwave receiver, and it's
stock antenna. That is it, nothing else. Picking up stations via tropo ducting 385 miles away!

(Oh and the house sits IN a valley, not on top of a hill or has any height advantage).

When conditions are right, you could rx/tx on a wet noodle and still hear it loud and clear. Nothing fancy required.
