I hate vacations...

In the two days I have been off so far we've had...

* UPS that controls the transmitter remote control died
* New tube decided to dump. Fortunately it restarted
* IT guy was promised to have a body in house, expected me, except my boss forgot to tell him I was off (Frantic calls...)
* Playout automation system crashed in the middle of a very important Baseball game. It caused the backup to go awry too.
* Exciter control on the remote control has grown an 'itchy trigger finger', making the MCOs switch exciters a few times to get back to 1...

All while I am 150+ miles away. Next time I am NOT letting my transmitters know I am going away! It's like a conspiracy!

I'm going to post my picture in the transmitter room before my next break. Then they will think I am there...

I look at is as job security for when I get back, I guess?

I don't know - I expect that I'll retire before I get a vacation. I get vacation time, but in recent years I've burned it all up in hospitals and at home as extended sick leave. Beats having my next-of-kin get my death benefits, though. :-)

My kids have been told that all there will be is a smoking hole in the ground with no forwarding address! The ham gear goes to a deserving ham club. They can fight each other over the tools.

I do have to be careful in what I tell them because my daughter informs me that she gets to pick my nursing home. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Day #2 .

Tube #3 decided to burp, fart and restart... the hits keep on coming! Can someone tell my transmitter I am still local??

That's it. I am going back tomorrow. (I was anyways...)

Next year, I am going to put a giant cut out of myself on the transmitter room wall!

Sooooo, Big TV market 7 does not have anyone as a backup so that an engineer can take a few moments off to clear his mind? Is your boss too busy?

Everything is ok. I knew this going in. I just wish it all happened when I was nearby. Of course, since I've been back, everything is happy.
We do have other engineers that work there, however, it is primarily my site, which I am responsible for. So even if someone else goes there
I still want to know what goes on. Even on vacation.

Do what I do, the week BEFORE vacation, I tell each of my troublemakers I'm going on vacation THAT week. They all act up then, I get 'em fixed, then go out of town the following week. Seriously, has worked every time, really. 8)
Trim to fit, paint to match, tune for minimum smoke.
