I've seen some pretty thin, and cheap, 1/8 inch (oh, pardon me, 3.5mm) jacks in equipment. The phones aren't so thin that they couldn't have kept one inside it, unless their eventual goal is to get something as thin as a credit card. I think the real reason they removed it is so they could sell their own brand of wireless ear buds, because no one uses that jack for anything else, according to their wonderful "know-it-all" marketing department.

Does the 5S still have one? I may be getting one of those soon. My 5 is about wore out (might not be as bad if I didn't drop it in the toilet (pause for spittake). It was starting to annoy me more than usual even before that rescue.

Since they STILL don't do FM radio, I may have to get a droid so I can keep tabs on the NextRadio stuff.

Who's your carrier?

The FM hardware may be in a Droid but if you're on Verizon it isn't active & you can't activate it. (it could be "rooting" the phone would allow activation -- I haven't tried that. Where I live, Verizon is the only carrier with reliable service.)

This is why I don't "buy" subsidized phones.

This. Never again...unlocked secondhand devices for me, please.

This sounds like just another example of Apple's "too hip for the room" attitude and penchant for forcing the user to buy expensive proprietary adapters.
