Dielectric News (Was: SPX to shut down Dielectric)

Post by NECRAT » Fri Apr 19, 2013 6:56 pm

Dear Valued Customer:

After careful consideration, SPX has decided to discontinue the broadcast television and radio and wireless antenna operations of its Dielectric Communications business unit worldwide, due to extremely difficult global economic conditions in the broadcast marketplace, and SPX’s ongoing efforts to further focus its future growth strategy on its Flow Technology business. We have made the impacted Dielectric employees in the U.S. aware of this difficult decision.

While you are likely anxious to understand more specifics in how the discontinuation of Dielectric’s broadcast and wireless antenna operations may impact your company, we respectfully request your patience and understanding over the coming weeks as we work through the many complex steps associated with this decision. As a result, please be aware that Dielectric broadcast and wireless antenna personnel will be unavailable during the week of April 22nd as we focus on coordinating next steps. We anticipate that by the early part of the following week of April 29th that we will be able to directly respond to your inquiries.

Please note that Dielectric broadcast and wireless antenna will continue to operate in a limited capacity through the end of June 2013. Our primary focus will be on completing outstanding orders while also conducting the necessary steps to close the business.

We will continue to accept orders on a limited basis for in stock inventory items. However, orders for such items may only be accepted if payment is received up front and in full and delivery is taken on or before May 31st.

Again, we will do our best to respond to all inquiries as quickly as possible starting the week of April 29th. Many thanks again for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Mark Fichter

This is bad news, I sure pity anyone with Dielectric antennas and filters, funny they are still running ads in the latest industry publications...sad they go all the way back to RCA.....wait a minute they too are long gone, I guess nothing is forever
Maybe Shively will step up to the plate and absorb some of it.

I hear they are being bought by Sinclair out of Maine.
We improve things by making them worse...

Our GM heard the same thing. (except Sinclair isn't in Maine, are they?)

No need to have two identical threads.

Thanks.

Oh; I can change the thread title on the main post? I don't think I knew that; you generally can't. Thanks.

Sinclair is on a buying tear. They have also bought the Titan TV group most or all of which are former Pappas stations, including the one here in Omaha (and the SSA or LMA or JSA or other alphabet soup arrangement with another station here). Our reaction was surprise that they would buy an antenna manufacturer. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

They also bought Barrington and Fischer too.

The Barrington sale, at least, hasn't (yet) been approved. Not sure exactly how they will manage to pull it off: in Syracuse, for example, they would own or operate five of seven commercial stations, including the NBC, CBS, CW, MyNetwork, and Fox affiliates. Doesn't seem that long ago that the NBC station had to be split from its associated AM and FM station because the owner (Newhouse) also owned the daily newspaper. It's a whole new world...

Actually it's spelled Fisher.

Hopefully Sinclair owning Dielectric will work out better than it did with Acrodyne.
