I don't think the 1260's firmware is field upgradable like some of their other models -- at any rate, there's nothing in the manual that supports it, and we've never had to do it to any of ours over the years. We have a bunch that date back to when they were ABC's receiver of choice, before they went to HD with the 1280s and 1290s (which were constantly being updated to fix various problems, mainly with audio).

Are you thinking of customization keys perhaps? Those are codes you can enter to enable specific features like data over Ethernet, 8PSK, 16QAM, and so forth. The keys seem to be specific to each receiver's serial number, so they had to be uniquely issued by Tandberg. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that Tandberg ended all support for the 1260 well before they were bought out by Ericsson, so it's pretty unlikely that you will be able to add features at this point.

Sorry...

It is field upgradable. I've done it. 1260, 1280, 1290 are all field upgradable.

But word of warning, and this applies to all Tandberg receivers when you go to do the upgrade, and heed my advice.

Turn Windows Firewall OFF... Turn Windows Firewall OFF... oh yeah, and Turn Windows Firewall Off!!
If you don't, the upgrade will fail halfway through, and it can turn your receiver into a paperweight.
There is a known bug in the Tandberg upgrade procedure where the Windows firewall blocks part of the upgrade, which causes this.

Wow...guess I'm lucky. I have upgraded a couple of 1290's in our house...our Windows firewalls are off by policy (corporate antivirus client has a firewall). Wasn't aware of the bug. Thanks for the warning!

If you haven't done this, also make sure that you've turned off any virus software that may be running. You risk bricking your IRD if you don't.

FYI...End of Support Life of the 1260 is May 1, 2015. Support for the 1290 ends in 2018.

Appreciate it. The poster, "web team" hasn't been here since 2015.

Anyone needs it, can PM you.
