Rumor has it that 100's of thousands of these units have been ordered by "a large retail outlet" (note no brand name), and will be available this summer at a price of about $49.

It is a VERY light unit. They could even add more weight to it if they wanted. It charges off of a USB port.

The demo unit unit had all sorts of goodies displayed, such as digital strength and other goodies. Doubt that will come through on the retail version.

Not sure about AM. This **MAY** be left out. Though AM did show up on the demo version... but I had no reception.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one at that price point.

Your nails look very nice.

The rechargeable aspect is a problem. Too bad they did not design in an alkaline one-time-use battery option. 4 hours on a charge is not going to get the job done.

If they allow them to leave AM out and still get the logo cert then all of the AM stations which have paid iBiquity royalties should get their money back.

I think I'd rather have a removable battery option - or an AC adaptor for charging. It is small though, it will be interesting to see the real world battery life. Id hope AM makes it to the production version too - although AM signal strength being what it is I doubt it would be receivable anywhere even if they do put a decent ferrite antenna inside. That extra 8 dB makes a lot of difference :(

How come you did your nails to go visit iBiquity, but not when at our booth? Didn't you have Nautel blue nail polish with you? I could have lent you mine :P

Ummm....that is so full of win. As an HD broadcaster, do I get one ahead of time "for testing purposes"?

What would REALLY be sweet is if there's a super secret hidden function to put analog on left ear and iboc on right ear.

I wonder which major retailer will have it. At $50, I'd definitely consider one.

It has a standard small USB port, so any old USB charger will work. Or Car charger for that matter. They were saying 12 hours on a charge, not 4.

Testing purposes?? Tried that multiple times.

So you guys must think I have more than a pair of hands.... lets do the math shall we??

Me holding camera = 2 hands.

Lady holding radio another 2 hands.

Is the tuner the only feature? Is there a card reader or MP3 player?

I would like to also see a removable battery option however to it.

I hope they dont disable those features like digital SNR and ebno , just keep them under a hidden menu.

And think of how great our lives would be if we had an extra pair of hands.... (You could unlock the hidden menu mentioned above!!)

Does it have a built-in speaker (not headphones/earphones/IEMs)

And it's available as of yesterday from Best Buy... http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/12/insi ... at-best-b/

I went and checked store availability online and it doesn't seem to find any in Wisconsin just yet - but several stores in Illinois are stocking it, as well as a bunch of other states I clicked on at random... including the one on Skibo Rd., in FayetteNam (since Kent started the thread :)).

From the ad, it looks like the form factor stayed pretty close to the prototype Kent saw in Vegas, although the production unit isn't quite as sexy as the prototype was with its red and clear case - still looks pretty slick :D
