Re: AM Radio Wall

All part of the job I suppose
Hey, fixing toilets and plumbing is traditionally part of the job description, right?

Re: Simian Automation Folder Architecture

Yeah I’m sure Simian is way different today than WaveStation was then. Does anyone see any problem doing that? No. I think that’s exactly what you need. In that previous WaveStation installation of mine, the studios were moved while I was on what turned out to be a sabbatical. Someone else set it up...

Re: Simian Automation Folder Architecture

Simian may or may not be different from WaveStation in this regard — and I have no experience with Simian yet — but I found WS would play files from a network drive if UNC paths to the folders were used rather than mapped drives. I had one station with a lot of long-form (block) programs with all fi...

Re: GOBBLE, GOBBLE!

By my high-level mathematics I think that makes you even older!

I actually started being on-call in 1977 but had a long break from that from ‘79 to ‘93. Wasn’t smart enough to avoid getting sucked back in, I guess. We’ll see how long it lasts this time.

Re: GOBBLE, GOBBLE!

Happy Thanksgiving, all. Mine will be marked by not being on call for the first time since 2003 (and before that back to 1993). Goes with being on the beach. I am starting a new job out of the business Monday. I may yet find a way to screw this up by Christmas!

Re: Suppressing Windows 10 Update and Forced Reboots

I've had Win7 boxes with 80gb drives pretty much self-distruct over time due to limited drive space, even on limited use hardware such as digital signage or kiosk operations. A lot of this is Windows bloating up a certain subfolder under the Windows folder. I’m typing on an Apple device so I can’t ...

Re: Does the FCC keep track somewhere of subchannels?

northpine.com keeps pretty good track of DTV and FM-HD subchannels but only for the Upper Midwest. They do change a lot, probably one reason the FCC doesn’t keep track of them.

Re: RING MY BELL

So does a news story count? (i.e.: part of a newscast rather than a separate “announcement” as we in the industry typically think of as a PSA?) Reading 11.46, it’s just unclear enough (what with the qualifications “...infomercials or programs” [infering that length or being paid for are not issues] ...

Re: RING MY BELL

My VZ flip fone got it, at least it was on the screen for me when I was reunited with it. Didn’t hear it sound off and everything was on. The screen message was not date-time stamped which was less than helpful had it been real. I have an iPhone which isn’t a phone at the moment. (No longer on compa...

On the other hand, here's a Denver TV reporter who found a way to do a story on the WEA without using prohibited tones, but actual duck noises:

Re: Avarage life of a 3cx15000a7

Don’t know if they’re available for the 3CX and the rig in question but a constant voltage transformer on the filament supply would take care of part of the filament voltage management. Drawback is you can’t adjust it either but it would get rid of the +- 4% variation. At a much lower power level I ...

Re: Phone Patch

Another BTW. The hybrid we used in that late 70’s/early 80’s scenario was made by Studer. You might find one of those inexpensively. Check with engineer types from local full service stations to see if they might have one they’d let you have free.

Re: Phone Patch

Two more thoughts for you. Your diagram looks a lot like what we used to do before consoles had mix minus outputs. (BTW, if your console has AUX busses, you can make your mix-minus with one of those, if free, to feed to the hybrid.) Drawback being that only one microphone can be routed to the caller...

Guess I’ll have to fire up the 95 machine sitting out in the garage and investigate. I had a suspicion he was right but it was too much fun to argue with him!
