Re: FM or AM for talk radio? I think I'd prefer FM...

Let’s be honest and say that the cards are stacked against you. You mention “picking up a frequency;” oh, if it were only that easy. Putting a new station on AM isn’t happening. The FCC hasn’t had a window for new AM’s since...I don’t even recall. And they show no signs of even entertaining the idea...

Re: Simian - Flex Time Help

This might be too basic a question but is the sound card used compatible with stretch and squeeze for Simian? I believe most ASI cards will support it but some others may not. Each group of elements to be adjusted with the stretch/squeeze must have a pre-defined length. I think this would be done in...

Re: Legal ID Question

Would it be a legal Id if it were articulated as...
"This is W123, Bedroom Town, Boom Town." ?
Simple answer, yes. Add Shantytown or any others you fancy.

Re: CCA FM5000G eating PA Tubes?

Others here will have more recent experience to draw from but from my own experience and anecdotal evidence I’ve been privy to, I’d say it’s quite possible this is part luck and part poorer QC from the tube makers/rebuilders and maybe poorer materials. The transmitter might be blameless...or not. It...

Pristine’s been around a long time - at least 20 or 25 years - for whatever that’s worth.

I dunno, I’m inclined to agree with all of it but don’t have a solution. I can be whiny.

I think they can be made compliant with an add-on CAPS box like the Gorman-Redlich.

Re: IC 706 MkII-G problem

Had time to mess with this this evening. Opened it up and used the service manual to guide me to the aforementioned possibly flaky variable capacitor. Moved it ever so slightly with a small screwdriver, buttoned it back up and tested successfully. So it’s at least temporarily fixed. Had to re-educat...

I find WeTransfer.com to be pretty reliable for up to 2GB. It’s free unless you need more capacity.

Re: EAS FM Receivers

W5SWL.com is a good source for such adapters.

I just bought a few UHF to BNC adapters to reduce the risk of breaking something inside some ham gear when disconnecting/connecting coax cables repeatedly and to eliminate the time wasted unscrewing/rescrewing PL-259s which I find to be a PITA.

Re: Gates MO-3759 Diode Rectifier - "DCC. Wire"

What’s wrong with “the smell of rosin and melting solder?” That’s one of my favorite smells! That and the smell you get with a bunch of tube-type gear running, which is probably just the smell of burning dust but I don’t really want to know if that’s it.
