Re: NBC Namedropper Trigger Configuration Help

You mean we're not the only station with "WARNING! TURN OFF RADAR DETECTORS!" signs fastened to the fence around our dishes?

Re: Adding Genlock

Yuck. I think we still have (in storage) the Evertz 1RU encoder that never *en*coded a single byte but handled the decoding to RS-232. I think I had to explain it twice to everyone we hired after going digital, it just didn't make sense to have a caption encoder with nothing connected to the video o...

Re: NBC Namedropper Trigger Configuration Help

I've had past problems with Namedropper cues caused by two different downstream devices: - Imagine X50 frame sync. If you do format conversion on one output, it will mangle VANC on *both* outputs. - Harris XHD3903 format converter. Old firmware was blocking VANC. I would expect if you have reasonabl...

Re: Adding Genlock

Walk, no RUN, from that Black magic crap. Seriously, it is not good equipment and IMHO, doesn't belong in a broadcast facility. Public access at best. It always runs hot, their support is awful, and it's clunky. AJA is at the low end of the budget scale for Broadcast Gear, and I think they make som...

Re: Adding Genlock

What trouble have you had with the BMD format converters? I am planning on ordering the Teranex AV soon. I'm talking about the OpenGear cards, the UDC units. I only have one Teranex & it's not used very often so I can't pass judgement on that unit. The UDC cards will intermittently lock up, cease p...

Re: Adding Genlock

We're pretty much an online shop, who can have a fairly large audience. Some shows live and some recorded. I felt our mulitview was a pretty big point of failure, and added the AJA DAs (HD10DA). Do you guys think those are pretty sturdy? As I prepare to build another control room next year, I would...

Re: Adding Genlock

It comes down to where you're comfortable in terms of the risk/cost balance. I'd never dream of using loopthroughs to feed our network signal to our master control switcher. On the other hand, if I were at a high school building a control room to record baseball games for broadcast on Facebook Live,...

Re: Adding Genlock

Not genlocking the router could lead to "glitchy" routes. Because if you happen to hit the button to change a route at the wrong time, you might interrupt a synchronizing signal. If you don't plan to change any routes while the destination is live on the air, you may not care. On the other hand... -...

Re: Using 2 Mini TriCasters to do live stream in studio and need some advice.

It's a bit early in my day so I'm not 100% certain I'm understanding the dilemma. You're saying you need to send HDMI over 470' of Cat6 cable? I'd written "the signals on the Ethernet cable are not Ethernet" but apparently with some models, the signals *are* Ethernet. This extender model https://www...

Re: 4K/60Hz HDMI DA that works?

We ended up resolving the issue by running SDI. Our guy thought the SDI outputs didn't scale the parallel 4K outputs -- that we'd only see a quarter of the display. Turned out he was wrong -- the SDI outputs are properly scaled 1080p and we had some SDI-to-HDMI adapters that handle 1080p just fine. ...

Unless you have a nearby traveler's information station, 1610 is almost certainly Toronto. CHHA usually broadcasts in foreign languages -- it's run by a Hispanic church but I've also heard South Asian programming -- and on rare occasions, English.

4K/60Hz HDMI DA that works?

Trying to send two 4K MVP outputs to two different control rooms. (total of four 4K monitors, two in each CR) I've tried three different HDMI splitters that claim to support 4K/60Hz but none work. (all the lights light up to indicate there's a cable there, but there's no video) They do need to drive...

Re: What is this? Broadcast Amplifier Transmitter?.paper weight?

"Dummy Load", also known in some countries as an "artificial antenna" which is probably easier to understand. It would be used while testing a transmitter. If you aren't sure the transmitter is operating properly, it might be transmitting on frequencies other than the one you want it to transmit on....

Agreed with Ray, I wouldn't be putting that thing back on the air until you know why it's oscillating off-frequency. I am decidedly NOT a communications lawyer but... Has the FCC been notified the station is off the air? https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/47/73.1740 , if you're off for more than t...
