Re: 500w translator

I suspect many of those are typos, and it really reveals how little attention the FCC pays to these things.
K274CX (99 watts) is one of those, so is K223CV (99 watts), W204CM (38 watts) & W255BK (50 watts).

Re: High Pitched Tone in FM Audio?

Have any one thought of the audio Chain. Like from your Audio cards From your automation systems. Some sound cars may develop a high pitch noise not noticeable until you have complete Dead silence. My limited trouble shooting can tell me that -- it's not coming in through the audio from the studio....

Re: PC based multi-band processor

Try to find a (working) Symetrix AGC and Compressor/Limiter units. Models 422 and 425, IIRC. No PC needed, lower power consumption and easy to hide from prying fingers. Set up well, they'll give you a 'radio' sound without destroying the quality. Problem with that setup is no FM peak limiter, meani...

Re: PC based multi-band processor

Basic StereoTool is 35 euros, but there are some fair-priced options (declipper and advanced dynamics) that make a big difference and still stay well under $500. You'll need at least a quad core i3 to run it well.

Re: FM Radio Broadcasting Data System

Not everyone runs RDBS. It's an audio subcarrier and has no "signal strength".

Re: Capacitor replacement.

If the flasher is mounted on the tower then you can use a three wire lighting choke without violating NEC. One winding, usually the middle, is used as the DC static drain and has no connection to the tower light electric feed. I've seen some which were set up with a three wire choke in this way but ...

Re: Capacitor replacement.

A static drain coil will be relatively fine wire (18 ga or smaller) wound on a phenolic or fiberglass tube about 18" long. There will be only one winding and it will terminate on screw terminals at each end. Phasetek's look like this (left, compared to the tower lighting choke on the right): 5b6ae98...

Re: 500w translator

I doubt that would get far with an inspector.

One of the things the licensee is supposed to do when a CP or license is issued is check it for errors.

This is a single tower non D, but it is a combiner.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but the photos show no DC connection from the tower to ground through the lighting choke. If that is indeed the case you need to add a static drain.

Re: 500w translator

The "director/engineer" got a decimal point out of place when the license application was entered in CDBS and nobody caught it. It's 50 watts according to the CP.

Re: Capacitor replacement.

On a DA, the value coupled to the tower could sufficiently change the base impedance. The difference between 0.01 uF and 0.02 uF is ~j15 ohms or less at AM broadcast frequencies. Using Phasetek's data these are in series with a coil in the +j1200 ohms or higher range so that amounts to 1.25% or les...
