500w translator

While searching through Radio-Locator I noticed an FM translator listed @ 500w. I thought translators were limited to 250w. The one in question is located in Newport, Tn @ 98.9 . I thought it might be a typo on Radio-Locator so I went to the FCC web site and it is listed @ 500w there also. Are there...

Re: Translator Question...

Thanks for all your input as usual. The station is in S.E. Ky. A lot of flooding up there. But I'm sure the ground conductivity is probably just as bad.

Translator Question...

I know an AM station owner that has an translator with the station but due to flooding the AM will be off the air until repairs are made. Possibly a month or so, Can the FM translator still operate without the AM broadcasting ?

Re: Arrakis Automation

Thanks for all you input...I know someone who ran one of the older Digilink systems around 2000 and his only complaint was customer service..When they had a problem it would take forever to get a reply back or a return call. Hopefully that has improved.

AM Major Modifications window..

Does anyone think that the FCC will ever open an application window for AM Major modifications anytime in the near future?
Yes, No, not in our lifetime..

With all the AM station that have gone dark recently it opens the possibility of some stations on really bad channels to move.

Translator Clearance...

I was looking @ radio-locator tonight and noticed WOPI-AM has a translator @ 97.9 with a CP to change to 98.1...there is a Class C station WBRF @ 98.1 that can't be anymore than 75 miles away. The translator signal looks to be inside some of WBRF's coverage area. How can they get this approved?

Mutually Exclusiove Applications for AM Translators

If an AM stations applies for a translator and the MX rule hits them will they be able to modify their application to switch to another channel or if they can't buy out the other station will they lose their opportunity to apply for a frequency?

Re: 2 FM's, same channel

Thanks Mark. I didn't think one station could cause another station to change freq. I thought there had to be a benefit for at least 2 stations for that to happen. We had a similar situation around Knoxville a few years back where WOKI @ 98.7 wanted to go to 98.3 and increase to 50kw (not sure what ...

2 FM's, same channel

It is a slow night at work so as I surf through radio-locator I see that WPKE licensed to coal Run, Ky just outside Pikeville, has a CP to move from 103.1 class A to 92.1 class C3, nothing strange about that but also on 92.1 is WDIC a class A licensed to Clinchco, Va. as the crow flies these station...

Re: Translators

If an AM stations has a translator that is rebroadcasting it's signal within it coverage area can they have another translator just outside the coverage area with it rebroadcasting from the 1st translator? If that makes sense?
